Zoom B3 vs. Darkglass B3K

In typical talkbass fashion i will recommend a pedal that has nothing to do with this thread. Having owned both pedals mentioned, i would go for a tech 21 vt bass pedal hands down. Tweak it for awhile and it sounds great, any complaint i've heard is from those that didnt spend time playing with it, its a sensitive pedal. I LOVED the B3k/B7k that i owned, but it had that one sound, and i dont play in a Djent band so i couldnt justify having a $350 pedal. The vintage microtubes vs the vtbass is another story...

I might add that anything that sounds clanky and brittle by itself mixes wonderfully in a band. Check out all the bass only tracks on youtube...most dont sound that good. I love Nolly's tone by itself, but ive seen Periphery live 3 times and have yet to hear him cut through 3 (!!) guitar players and samples to boot.

I had the Zoom B3 for quite a while ... I found it to be more useful by using the Balance ( Blend ) settings to help let some of the original bass tone thru unaffected ... wasn't a fan of the Dirt in it ... but in your case , a used one might be a good choice .... you could ad an dirty analog pedal later .. ?!

I now have a B7K in front of my Line 6 HD ProX ... I have passive basses , and it helps sculpt the tone .. the Line 6 is geared more towards guitar than bass ... the DarkGlass helps the bass a lot ..

I used the software for the Zoom B3 ... it's cool to see what you're doing on a bigger screen ... !! as it takes time to program sounds for your specific needs ...

Those who have both units they can try this patch from Crystalman thread http://www.talkbass.com/threads/zoom-b3-patch-ideas.918990/page-38 post #752.He nailed the sound of the Vintage microtubes. For me the Darkglass pedals is the best sounding analog pedals out there, but the Zoom B3 is the best digital. You can easy make any dirt sound you want with the Darkglass units, but if you don't have or want to spend the money for them, the B3 is a lot more difficult but capable to reproduce a lot useful dirt sounds. You only need to work A LOT with the unit to take the best out of it,but many of us have good results.I love both of theme.

Here some exables of mine dirts with B3

What settings did you use on these covers ? (if you remember, of course :))

For the Hysteria i was using the MXR DI+ and the settings is on the description of the video( Bass 3 Mid 2 Trebl 0 Gain 54 Blend 100 Level 115 Color On).And if i remember well i was not using any amp that time.Maybe a compressor only, don't remember well.

For the Time is running out i was using the "Muse Time" patch from this library https://www.dropbox.com/s/ho0zr70zd4qzgwl/TitaniumRx.b3a .

I think that the Hysteria patch is a little brighter from the original bass sound and the Time is running out is a little darker and i have a little more gain, but maybe is the more volume my line has for the demo purposes.

All the Best ticol07 ;)
