Zoom MS-60B+ (a compact B2-Four?)

for a clean-ish player like me, this is perfect

but for FX players, i can see the limitations

Usually all the information is some sort of MIDI info. I think that is how everything is stored and recovered but I don't know.

I thought I'd use the expression pedal more than I actually did on my old Zoom. Most of the time I didn't, it was more of just setting up chains of effects and maybe having one or two effects off on the same patch as I clicked along. You know like having a flanger on in a chain, next one the same chain with the flanged off. That sort of thing.

i contaced the main guy at Distaster Area Designs - home of MidiBaby

he was waiting for the 60B+ and 70CDR+ to start working on new MIDI pedals - or at least new firmware.

i'll reach out to him again - very curious.

Plus they don't have any effects to utilize one. Not that ones could be loaded from Guitar Lab if they were available.

the MS-60B+ is right there with it

I have been contemplating this one as an additional tool for the board, maybe, but I’m concerned about its bypass ability. In the past I tried the B1 Four and MS60B and they were tone suckers. This would be a utility pedal for me, not always on.

The MS60B is definitely a tone suck, I use a separate switch to remove it from the signal path when not in use.

Bass amps

The MS-60B has stereo outputs with the option to brach anywhere in the chain to the right output

So I have

HPF > 1073 Preamp > DBX Comp > EQ (100hz bump)

Then I branch right to the ToneX ONE with 2 amps loaded.

The signal chain continues through one of the many MS-60B+ amps to the left output

These are routed through the mixer to select or blend the Zoom and ToneX ONE

Then balanced out to stage and FOH

The MS-60B+ chain into the ToneX makes all the difference

Current ToneX faves:

Aguilar DB750 with York Audio 410 IR

and

Noble Preamp with York Audio 410 IR

That little Harbinger LV7 mixer kicks! Bluetooth connects to my iPad to route audio.

Would you say the bass sounds, amps, preamps, all that, in the Zoom MS60B+ are better than the Boss, QC, Line 6 multis? Have you used those?

I have a B1 Four and a B6. But ironically, I find I'm using the B1 Four more because the form factor and battery operation make it easy to "drop and go" in the places where I'm mostly playing.

I'm wondering whether the MS-60B+ would be a genuine upgrade for me, or whether I'm just GASsing as usual LOL.

Has anyone compared the sound quality of the MS-60B+ vs the B1 Four? Is the newer pedal audibly better?

(The B1 Four's form factor probably works better for me, in that more and bigger buttons makes it easier to move through patches? I think I'd also miss being able to edit patchs on my PC and in ToneLib.)

I had the B1 Four (and the B2 Four, B6, and B3)

It's been a while since the B1 Four, can't do a side by side

But the features/routing, pedal size, fx count/types have me sold on the MS-60B+.

As I mentioned, blending the ToneX and 60B+ yields some great sounding clean textures

The 60B+'is certainly worth a try for the price

I've owned Boss/Roland bass products for decades.

I own Helix Native and Neural bass software.

Haven't tried the QC.

MS-60B+ over Boss for me hands down.

Helix Native for bass is unusable, haven't tried Line 6 hardware.

Neural is great, but only software.

QC is far too expensive for my use..

For the money, the MS-60B+ is hard to beat.

Glad Zoom released this, as the other models were too bulky for my taste

60B+ seems to handle 6 slots well too, only a few chokes compared huge CPU bottleneck with the other units

Thanks for explaining. Is this to give you more options, rather than the MS-60B+ amp sims lacking in quality?
