Ok so I just got a Zoom RT-223 drum machine and when I plug my bass into the line in jack and listen through the headphones output the bass is only on one channel. The Zoom output is on both channels but the bass is only in one ear. What do I need to do? I suspect I am just doing something wrong and it isn't a hardware problem. Anyone else have this machine? Does this happen for you? The zoom has quarter inch outputs for left and right but I am really just interested in headphones for now. I don't have the right cables to test combining the two 1/4 outputs into headphones...
Sounds like the line input on the Zoom is stereo - the right side would be contained on the ring of a TRS plug, but you're giving it a TS plug, so the ring connection is being shunted to the sleeve, which is ground. You can try half-plugging the cable in, but then you might only get signal in the right side. You could also run the bass into a unit with stereo outputs, then use a 2xTS > TRS converter. The line-in might intelligently switch between balanced and stereo, as well, so you might be able to just give it a balanced input and it'll come out on both sides, but you'd have to read the manual to figure out if it does that or not.
Thank you! The cable in has TS connectors. I am going to run out and buy a TRS cable and see if it fixes it. I have run the bass through a Korg Pandora first but it still went through the TS cable...
