ZVex Woolly Mammoth - GAS attack - help!

I agree that the WM is not very versatile. It's either very fuzzy, or ridiculously fuzzy. Don't get me wrong, I love fuzz. But the WM is on the verge of being too fuzzy for me, even at it's least fuzzy setting.

Then I bought an all-tube amp.

I recommend that you put that 300 dollars towards an all-tube amp. Then you won't need a pedal to try to reproduce those tones.

I no longer need a fuzz pedal, but I'm hanging on to the WM, in case I ever get a solid state rig again.

I'm too in love with my hybrid SVT3-Pro (the SVT-CL is the backline at our rehearsal studio), I'm not going to go to an all-tube amp until I go Orange.

I'm looking for really fuzzy, but the WM just missed the warmth and openness that I'm familiar with.

Do you like how the EM sounds as a fuzz? I know you use AX tubes...

If so, why not try to find something else for heavy OD. Who knows, might be easier!

How do you get fuzz out of a tube amp?

I have an SVT and couldn't do it. Unless maybe I play it at levels that will give the HOA blissninnies a heart attack all the time.

I had a Woolly Mammoth for a while and it sounded sick through my Trace Elliot V8. I just couldn't justify a €300 pedal only gettin' used for one song for now...

I'm still looking for another (extreme) fuzz.

I'd give a look at the Subdecay Flying Tomato, the MI Audio Neo Fuzz or GI Fuzz, & the Chunk Brown Dog.

The First song that comes up Dark Music, has a very tamed down WM into an ashdown sup-octave

Then listen to Here Lies Love. Which is THE mammoth

Both tracks I tune the amp (Mag 600 into ABM 4x10) differently to compensate for the tone of the song

I use it in many more songs that we are recording. It's all on how you set up your amp to recieve the pedal just as well as the pedal settings itself.

I still suggest get one, it's one of those pedals that if you decide not to buy it, you'll always wonder how it would sound if you took your time to play around with it

I know this is a way old thread but I had to respond...this thread came up in a google search I did and its what got me to sign up to this page.... if you ever thought of building your own pedals then give this one a go.... it has no rare components...all easy to find and they are all cheap.. where I mail order from I think the most expensive part of the circuit board would be seven cents. Or find a pedal builder and if they ask you for more then $75 to make you one then slap them. Its not a hard build at all. I'd feel like a thief if I charged more then that unless I did some crazy custom graphics on the case.

Way Back when this thread started zvex was one of the few boutique makers and that pedal was that much due to capitalism and rarity, I used to see them in studios mostly...and they were "Hand Painted" whatever that means... but since then there have been so many clones made (even Mooer has a decent one, the Fog) that zevx gets a more reasonable price. I wonder if the new one does better with actives or has a modifiable input like the Mastotron does...
