I have for sale a 2002 Modulus Quantum 6 with a semi-hollow mahogany body and a quilted maple top with f-hole. Wow, that was a mouthful. This bass used to belong to Tad Kinchla, the current bass player of Blues Traveler. This was Tads main bass and according to the customs tags on the flight case, its been on at least one international tour with Blues Traveler. Ive been trying to get the previous owner to sell it to me for years, as he always had it up for trade only, and I was finally able to buy it last month. As Ive stated in other for sale threads I have up, I went on a bit of a spending spree and I have to let some gear go. As I honestly only play a 4-banger Im reluctantly going to let this one go. Its in much better shape than when I got it. I spent a whole day cleaning it, oiling the fingerboard and setting it up with a brand new set of DR Sunbeams. It looks and plays like a dream now.
The mahogany body is BEAUTIFUL and I think it compliments the bass much better than the standard alder. Also, there is some beautiful grain going through the quilt that adds a whole different dimension to it. The f-hole really just ties everything together beautifully. This bass is a stunner and it draws everyones attention the moment it leaves the case. There is a decent amount of wear on the bass. Theres a bunch of small dings on the bass, but I dont think any go through the finish. There is some tarnish on the screws and the two of the tuning keys are missing the backs. There is some damage behind the strap button on the upper horn shown in the pictures as well as some not so clean routing down around the neck pickup. Honestly, you dont really notice this stuff when playing it and it doesnt stand out as much in person.
Playability is fantastic, especially with the new strings and setup. The neck is super fast and smooth. The best playing 6 Ive owned. Its perfectly even everywhere on the neck. The B-strings is monstrous! Its just as tight as the E-string and when you go low, the house shakes, but you never lose any clarity. Hands down, the best B-strings Ive ever played. The C-string is nice and full and you dont have to worry about it not being as loud as the other strings. It has Bartolini soapbars and an Aguilar OBP-3 preamp. The strings are brand new and have barely any play time on them. Nice and shiny, just like they are out of the package.
This bass also has the bonus of coming with a professional grade flight case thats custom molded to the bass. It couldnt be safer in anything else and I think it could get run over by a truck and nothing would happen to it. This case must have been several hundred dollars to make!
I really cant say enough good things about this bass and I really dont want to let it go. I just cant justify owning a bass this nice for whenever I feel like playing a 6er.
Price: Im into this one for a little over $1950, I would like to get at least $1849 plus shipping. These go for around 3k used with a standard case and this case is far from standard. The history comes free.
