I'm in a bind and need some bread. So one of my basses has to go….
This 2006 Sadowsky has wears and tears at the body, but the neck is like new. It's a fantastic tool that has been serving me with pride.
8.4lbs, this has to be one of the lightest Metro. Despite the light weight, the B strings is like the thunder of Thor… honestly the best one in all of the 5 sadowsky I've owned (even NYCs)
I did several mods/upgrades:
-new US Hipshot 'Y' tuners
-Brass nut with a little narrower string spacing (I like the B and G strings to sit a little farther from the fretboard's edges)
-Oversized Luminlay side dots (not LED)
-Neck pocket milled lower and neck tilted for better ergonomics. I like to have the strings closer to the body near the end of the fretboard (slap area) but enough play at the bridge to keep the geometry of the strings/saddles constant. The action at the bridge is pretty much exactly like it was originally (this is a mod that Roger now apply to all of his NYC Standards)
-Back of the neck slightly reshaped to a flatter C
-Nordstrand 3 band preamp (I need a mid control on my basses, period). IME/O this preamp compliment this bass wonderfully. The Bass ctrl is perfect for deepening this bright sounding bass. The mid ctrl act on two different freq (push/pull):
UP = 1k great for that '80 thin slap sound or a really round finger tone
Down = ~200hz great for thickening up the bridge pup for a very burpy in your face fingerstyle (this freq is also great for fattening up the ash/maple/close to the bridge pups combo). Of course I will include the original Sadowsky preamp.
-The layout has been rearranged (I don't like stacked pots) see pics
