Final price drop to $850 shipped! Up for sale is my 1977 Ibanez Flying V bass. I have owned nearly every "lawsuit" Ibanez bass ever made, and this model is one of the very finest. Ibanez made two V models - one was a cherry finish, bolt on neck with a mudbucker-style pickup. That was a nice little bass, but this one was their top of the line: Ash body with Korina finish, set neck with string-thru construction, brass nut and bridge and "SuperBass" P and J-style pickups. The fit and finish rivals a vintage Gibson (this model actually came out before Gibson made a V bass and IMHO it looks and plays better than any they've ever done.) The sound is pure 70's-era Graham Maby (he played an Ibanez P-J jazz back in the day.) The 33 1/2" scale length and 1 11/16" nut width makes this play like butter.

The bass is in decent cosmetic condition considering the age. It has some chips on the horns and headstock, see pictures. The original owner (the guy I bought it from 20+ years ago said he got it new,) tried to beat the neck dive by moving the strap peg to four different places - see pictures. And the "knee rest" looks like a homemade replacement to me - it's leather instead of the typical rubber. The previous owner said it came this way stock, and a longtime Ibanez rep also told me that weird things like this did happen toward the end of the lawsuit era - but I have my doubts. Even with these warts, this is a beautiful and rare bird. My price is $1,200 shipped. Includes OHSC - in slightly fragile but good condition. Enjoy the pics and let me know if you're interested.

Way too cool. I think 1977 was the breakthrough year for Japanese guitar makers. I've had Aria P's and J's that were way ahead of the crowd and they all turned out to be 76 or 77's.
GLWS!

Thanks! I agree - the mid 70s are the sweet spot for sure.

Thanks for the interest. I don't have a DI at home but will try to get some clips posted sooner or later.

There's a lot of stuff here described as 'cool vintage' that's really just sort of old and tired and not particularly cool. This is actually cool. It's the type of thing that gets snapped off at the ask by the right buyer/collector, even given the dings. GLWS.

Thanks, Tradernick. You're right, it's all about finding the right buyer - and that's as it should be. I want my vintage stuff to go to someone who appreciates it, and I can wait till that person comes along.

Still available I guess. I haven't been bumping because I really don't want to give it up, but what the hey...

I had a Rick lawsuit bass from Ibanez in the mid 80's. Build and action was good, but pickups were weak

Thats really clean condition. I have an early 90s Gibson Flying V Guitar and I’m meticulous within reason on my instruments and still managed to get more dings than usual on this guitar and haven’t played it out that much. Very nice.

Thanks and I agree it’s pretty darn clean for 43 years old. The only real bummer is the extra holes.
