For starters, it definitely doesn't fit a regular scale Fender P or J, though a Mustang or MusicMaster bass might fit. Judging by the shape of the padding, I'd guess whatever it held must have had a rounder lower bout, most likely a Music Man Stingray.
All of the case hardware is there, and fully functional, and with a minimal amount of corrosion. When cleaning the case up, I didn't touch any of that or make any effort to clean the metal parts at all. The exterior is really great, no cuts, tears, or dents, only very minor scuffs in the vinyl. I cleaned it with some mild soap and warm water and followed with a Lemon Pledge wipedown... that was really all it needed. The case interior is lined with orange velour. (yes, ORANGE) There are a couple very small holes (maybe a 1/4") in the lining, and the upper left corner has some staining, most of which cleaned up. (pictured) Other than that, the lining is pretty nice. All the padding is still secured to the inside of the case, and the accessories pocket is perfect. The case has been thoroughly cleaned and aired out.
Let's be sure your bass fits before we close a deal...
Critical measurements:
exterior: 47" × 15" × 4" (Length-Width-Depth)
interior: 45" × 14" × 2" (estimated maximum)
Allowing for padding, the case would comfortably hold a bass of 44" total length. As you can see from the pictures, it was designed to hold the instrument diagonally.
So I would gladly sell this to whoever for whatever, but I'm kinda' hoping this vintage case will end up paired with a vintage bass. I figure you wouldn't have read this far if you weren't looking.
