I searched high a low and even talked to Hussain Jiffrey who was the US bossa Rep for many years.. He said he had a custom UJB and he would only consider selling it for 4000.
This one is super rare with all the upgrades. Insanely burled/spalted maple top, matching pickup covers, brass nut, maple neck, ebony board, and super light ash body. This is one of the lightest 5 strings I've ever played. 18mm spacing, hipshot A bridge, stock pickups and NBC-1 active circuit pre amp.. single coil dual coil switch, bass, mid, trebble boost and cut, pickup pan.. Abalone dot inlays.. The bass is such great condition except for some marks near the bridge on the body and some swirly/shinnyness where basses get player wear from slapping. those minor imperfections done even show up in pics though.. the electronics control cavity cover may or may not be original I'm not sure..everything playability and functionality wise is perfect. Comes with a light hard case.
The tone is fat a funky it's amazing. The lows are big and fat and The highs are so smooth. Get an amazing example of Toshios's craftmaship in his prime. This thing has a one of a kind top.. the most heavily spalted top I've ever seen.. it may even be a splat/burl hybrid.. I'm not totally sure but it looks amazing. There are gold, red, black tones all swirling together in the top. $3500 plus shipping.

Oh wow..this spalt+burl top is insane! :-)..never saw such one before...seems in great condition too!...hmm..maybe the only flaw is the (ugly) preamp cavity cover...might be not original..but as I'm aware of Bossa..this had not the best attention of Mr. Setozaki IMHO :-)...hey, got any sound demo?

each clip is about a minute long so i just made one file for ease.. so just scroll through. each setting has my voice first describing the setting on the bass. recording was done though my mark bass head direct out into a MOTU stock preamp.. so not the best gear but it sounds great i think.. i could do another one directly into an API if people want. No mixing or processing to the direct signal, everything is either flat on eq or only slightly boosted (as described by the voice on the track) but this bass sounds great i think with almost no eq or processing so imagine if it was mixed well it would be even better but i wanted to show it raw.

Okidoki..I downloaded & listened your demo...thanks also for the different settings!...though I missed the setting for both Pu's slapped in Single Coil modus at the end of your file?...but I might be wrong? :-)...well, your bass sounds really not bad..or even really good..as I could only listen thru smaller desktop speakers right now and not in my home studio :-)..your bass sounds not that surprisingly fat but rather similar to my used UJB-5 with no top wood and a not clearly identifined body (Alder?)..mine has also a 21-fret Ebony board, the older GZP-2 preamp with HT switch, plastic nut & really not the best Kluson type tuning pegs and a standard bridge...and weighting 4 kg as my my preferred limit :-)..what I most dislike on mine is the One-Piece Maple neck (my OB-4/5 models have much better 3-Piece Hard Rock Maple necks) and a bit of unbalanced neck heaviness.:-)...anyway, from your sound demo I liked the Single Coil setting the most..also I realized again what I really prefer sound wise..the snap of a Maple fret board! :-)..cheers, JJ
