This was my quarantine project, but I’m finding I just play my Dingwall or my Bass VI most of the time.
Started as a Showcase neck and body from Warmoth.
Body is 4lb 4oz 3-piece roasted swamp ash
Neck is wenge on quartersawn wenge, 1.5” nut, standard taper, cream dots, black Tusq nut, nickel 6105 frets, steel reinforcement rods.
Here it is dry fitted with Dimarzio Model J pickups and black pickguard. I did not drill it for any pickguard screws.
The action is really low, and could go lower with a basic fretjob. There is only a tiny bit of buzz in a couple spots. Someone who plays with more relief in the neck or slightly higher action would probably not even notice.
I applied their metal decal.
I decided to use this cool neck plate from Icon Plates.
Here is the body drying after I applied some Minwax Satin Wipe-On Poly. I did 5 or 6 coats. I can get better pictures that show how I did a pretty nice job, but it isn’t perfect.
I wanted grind and clank from this as a funk and rock bass, so it’s got a solderless kellingsound 500K P bass harness (volume and tone) and a Dingwall 4 position rotary selector (neck, both series, both parallel, bridge).
I can find my luggage scale but it weighs in the 8.5 to 9 pound range I believe. Balances nicely on a strap.
Of course you can see it features Hipshot tuners and bridge, and a Dunlop straplock on the top horn only (my personal preference).
I will update this with more photos, as the bass currently has a clear pickguard and the Aguilar pickups. Both guards, both sets of pickups, and the wenge pickup covers will be included.
I’m setting the price at $1000 plus shipping. Between the body, neck, hardware, electronics, and assembly I think this is pretty fair. We can discuss shipping. I have a cheap gigbag I can include if you want, but I’ve got a good solid box and have sent instruments all over the world (I once sent a vintage Ric to The Netherlands via USPS without a scratch).
