Are you a Manhattan hipster looking for the most hipsterest Jazz Bass around? Look no further.

One of the go-to guys on the lower east side in the old NYC music scene was Richard Baxt of Richie's Guitar Shop. Lots of "local celebrity" clients, most famously Nikolai Fraiture and Albert Hammond Jr. of the Strokes.

Here's a NYT article about him from a few years back: The Secret Zen Master of Guitar Repair (Published 2017)

Richie is mostly known as a tech, but he also makes a small number of his own Fender clones that get rave reviews. This is one of his Jazz Basses. Typical '60s alder/rosewood Jazz. Great hardware:
  • Noise-canceling Kent Armstrongs.
  • KTS Titanium bridge
  • Schaller tuners
This is a very nicely assembled/finished and perfectly set-up Jazz Bass from a respected NYC luthier. Light and resonant with a well-balanced tone. Great hardware and incredible playability.

Just came back from a fret dressing and set-up from my tech, Darrel Gilbert of the Gibson and ESP custom shops. Comes with an SKB case (not the G&G in the pic) and I'll string it up with some fresh DR Fat Beams.

At 80, Richie’s still going strong despite various health issues. He’s had a revolving door of assistant/apprentices over the past few years to whom he’s been teaching the trade.

Great guy and a dear, old friend. My Modulus BassStar was his main gigging bass back when he still played. He sold it to me when he knew he wasn’t going to play anymore.

That’s a really nice example of his work. Good luck with the sale.

Woo, someone's gonna be happy with this one at that price..
Hope so. I'm not looking to profit; just recovering some money to put into other projects.

I realized that I'm just a PBass guy at heart. I don't play as much as I used to. When I do, I reach for my PBass with TI Jazz Flats 90% of the time.

I'm the same way, I get it. I have a good Jazz that seems very little playtime vs my P with flats.

I've had 5 guys PM me with pic requests. Figured I'd just post here. All photos taken just now: about 11 am on Sunday April 24th.

My asking price didn’t include shipping and seems quite low for what this is. But, sure, I’m open to a bit of negotiation (within reason).

I have to let our members know something . . . You guys let a really good bass pass you by. The bass itself and the character behind its creation, make this instrument one of a kind. And LanEvo is a first-rate member.
