Details

The Distillate was Alembic’s first alternative to the pricier Series I and II instruments, but it retained many of the signature Alembic features such as the crown headstock, 5-piece maple/purpleheart neck, oval fingerboard inlays, brass bridge block, bird tailpiece, and the legendary filter-based electronics with Q switch. It also added bass and treble cut/flat/boost switches, which the Series instruments lack. This beautiful 1986 example features a walnut top on a mahogany body. It has the newer, extended upper horn, and the pickup selector switch near the rest of the controls. There is also no battery draining LED. What really sets this one apart is that it is a 34’’ long scale. The vast majority of Distillates are 32’’ medium scale. Despite the extra length, this bass balances great, and I am very picky about neck dive as I often double on keyboards. I can’t quite say the bass is in mint condition, but it is pretty unbelievable for its age. There is a small finish crack by the output jack that has been there since I bought it 8 years ago and hasn’t gotten any worse, and two pinhead-sized dings on the back of the body and one on the edge of the headstock. Frets show very little wear. It has a solid brass, non-adjustable nut that is likely not original, but very nicely done. Included in this sale are the original case in overall good condition, and the original wood card (build sheet) and misc. paperwork. This bass has had the Alembic-spec modification to increase output level (two 2.7k resistors added to the pre), which really brought out the beast in it. Same tones, just louder and more dynamic. Weighs 10 pounds.

I privately own and operate a local musical instument repair shop.
That Distillate circuit is so easy to work with... I love playing mine out. My '85 fretless has the extended upper horn, and indeed balances perfectly.

You can hear the bass here:

With a pick -
Finger style -

Your music is GREAT !!!! Totally my style, but the tone is just OK... Just kidding ! It's SICK !!!
Coastline is the type of stuff I like to play. That Alembic sure shines !
Your singer is great, too on On with the Show. I love that proggy, UK kind of sound.

You're my new best friend. :bassist::roflmao:
Thank you. I'm the singer and UK is one of my prime influences with this band, along with FM, Crimson, and Rush.

So, I GOTTA know - Do you have another Alembic you're keeping ? You are TOO good to be bass-less.

EDIT : I just noticed this also has LED's. How is this still here ? All the paperwork, too. It's perfection. I absolutely adore my Europa, which has the same electronics. How is this still here ?

Your tone is so perfect.

I do not have another Alembic (yet). I lean more toward my Rics, but do like the Alembic for specific things. For my future Alembic needs, I'm interested in a 5 string tuned EADGC, preferably medium scale. Since that's something that's super rare, and for the sake of experimentation, I've been working with a made in China Warwick Corvette 32'' 5er. It's a solid little bass, and once I pulled out the generic bass/treble preamp and installed a JTEX Distiller low pass filter with 3 position Q switch, it really came to life. I'm selling the Distillate so that if something I want comes along, I will have funds ready.

I've had this on hold for a couple of people that ended up passing on it, and I've had interested parties who couldn't come up with the funds, so this is officially up for grabs. First come, first served!

It is now on hold, but to answer your question - possibly for the right 5 string Alembic or a really special Rickenbacker of some sort.

I somehow missed the part about LEDs. This bass does not have LEDs. And it is now SOLD!
