Something seldom seen..An (early) natural '82 Fender Walnut Precision Special in near mint condition. From the serial number, it seems like the 21st instrument made. A quote from someone who knows a bit about them:

"The natural (lighter) color Walnut Specials were the first batch made and are very, very rare. I've seen 2 vs. 50+ of the tinted ones. Fender started spraying a burst pattern tinted clear coat after that first batch. Unfortunately, the tinted clear coat has a reputation of bubbling and flaking off, unlike the lighter first batch of instruments. John Page posted on the FDP forum that less than 200 Walnut Precision Specials were produced and Fender lost money on every one sold."

Now, what makes this instrument a little more "special" is the fact it's the actual bass chosen and photographed for the 1982 Fender catalog. This makes the bass harder to value, but after speaking to several dealers/collectors in the past few months and taking into account the current economy, i've decided to let her go for $3500 USD+ shipping. This piece will continue to rise in value due to the fact it's the actual bass featured in the catalog. I'm located in Canada and will only accept Paypal. Partial cash + trade on a lower end valued 4 string bass might be a possibility, but looking mainly for cash at this point. Don't miss out on this rare piece!

That is one great looking bass. And I went back and forth between the "live" pics and the catalog pic. That really IS the same bass! Kewl. Bump.

Is this the bass because of the matching wood grain? My monitor sucks...

Yes, the grain is identical and the serial number matches (impossible to see the serial on the scanned photo on here, but you can just barely make it out when you look at the actual catalog in front of you). This bass is the actual one photographed in the catalog.

Under 9 pounds? Egads! Mine (non walnut) is around 11, that's pretty damned sweet.
