I originally got this bass for a number of reasons:
1) I had dreamed of this model after selling one in 2000 to a customer of mine at Mars Music, not to mention all the cool pics of Oteil's in Bassplayer Magazine
2) I was in another of one of my frequent bouts of '6-string Fever' and thought that Modulus would be a good option for an ultra-modern, ultra-playable 6'er. It IS.
3) Since letting go of a Quantum 5, I had been dying to hear what a Sadowsky Pre would do to the 'modulus sound'. Perfect four knob setup, and IMO/IME Modulus makes THE most playable and comfortable design/build for a 35" scale instrument including the P-bass-esque body style (BIG plus here). In short, as close to a Sadowsky 6 as I thought I could get and probably will NEVER see from Rog and Co.
4) I thought that I could let go of a Sadowsky to free up $$ while retaining the basic tone of those basses in a graphite package.
This is hands down the best 6 I've owned and/or played, including Smith/MTDx2/Roscoe/Yamaha/etc. It originally came with a Bart pre and Lane Poor Pickups (still have them) and was so clear sounding and even that I found myself opening up more into a soloistic/explorative type of player because of it, rather than the groove-oriented pocket player I am 99% of the time. The neck shape, the ability to adjust the bridge anywhere from 18mm down to 16.5mm (currently at 17.5mm) which is NOT standard on Quantums, and in short a singing responsive tone that I hadn't come across in ANY bass let alone a supposedly 'sterile' graphite bass.
The upper register on this bass remains warm and round, due IMO to the hollow body design and the spruce top. And yet all the punch, lowend clarity, and low end that Modulus is known for was ever present. The addition of the Sadowsky Pre and Bart PUPS took this inherent tone and IMO made it more musical, thicker in the low mids, and even sweeter in the high-end. Comparatively, the LanePoor/Bart EQ setup sounded completely anemic and thin.
The work was solid on the pre/pickup change, and I will include the Lane Poors and original Bart Pre if the buyer wants that option. Bass is solid for being 11 years old, and the neck/frets are absolutely mint. The only blemish is a small crack near the rear-most knob that occurred when the previous owner got into a car accident and was repaired by a competent luthier. Barely shows. Previous owner has paid 3k from The Groove Shoppe, and I paid $2800 for it.
I'll let it go for $2700 Shipped to US/Canada
