This Tobias is a unique gem for sure. The two Bartolini soapbars in this Growler/Killer B style body are placed side-by-side and configured similarly to the MTD *SUPER 5*. I've never seen another anything like this. The Tobias Nashville custom shop occasionally turned out one-off prototypes and custom orders and this must be one of them.
Bartolini preamp with traditional 3-Band EQ and then two toggle switches for series/single coil/parallel for each pickup just like the MTD Super 5. Push/pull on volume for active/passive. Push/pull on mid control for mid frequency shift. Bartolini pickups.
Just like production Growlers the body is Ash. Unlike your typical Grower the selection of flamed maple for the neck and headstock is more exquisite. Wenge fingerboard and Wenge truss rod cover.
I've had several Growlers of all the eras (USA and the new Indonesian) over the years and this one easily tops them all in the playability and tonal department. This is what the Growler should have been. More conventional EQ and preamp arrangement which is much easier to dial in with plenty of usable tones.
It's in overall great shape. A few signs of wear hear and there but nothing major. It's a used base so please don't expect mint condition but it is really a nice specimen. A couple of dings and indentations here and there. Some light wear on the back. It's hard to see wear marks due to the open pore nature of the ash and oil finish. Neck is straight. Fretwork is great and the neck takes very low action. Dual truss rods turn fine. Great asymmetrical neck shape makes for fast, comfortable and easy playing. Excellent ergonomics. String spacing is adjustable via the adjustable bridge saddles.
Kind of a unicorn here. Here's your chance to snag this one-of-a-kind USA Tobias!
It's even strung with new MTD strings.
Really unique piece here.
$2450 $1875 plus shipping. Will ship in a gig bag and carefully packed.
Trades considered but mostly looking to sell. Might be interested in a trade involving a Sadowsky Jazz 5 string or similar. Maybe some other 5 string. It's Talkbass... you never know. Worst thing I can say is "thanks, but no thanks."
