I tried the EAP with a band and my Genz-Benz Shuttle 3.0-10T which has a built-in highpass filter on my 4/4 5-string (high C) and I had to turn up the bass a bit whereas with the Full Circle on an amp without a HPF the bass needed to be turned down a lot. But that was a studio situation with a singer at a singers acoustic volume.

I have a pair of Bart J's in a frankenbass project: the darker one in the neck and the brighter one in the bridge (I don't remember what the model numbers are). Great pickups: even response, clean, versatile. I would say the neck pickup is a tad darker than a typical J-pickup, but on this bass that is preferable.

I remember for a couple years back in college, mid 80's, the guitarist in our band and I had friends who's parents had bought a bar. They hired us for 2 New Year's gigs in a row where we played midnight to 4 am.

This year our band is booked for New Year's from 5-9pm. The bar calls it "Old Fart's New Years" party. It's been alot of fun.

Yeah, things have changed.

I defretted a Thunderbird. It's neck-through, so no neck replacement option without seriously invasive surgery. It's an Epiphone Pro IV, which means rosewood. It has walnut veneers in place of the frets now, and it looks good, although I need to get rid of the dots on the face now.

This goes to show that no matter how goofy your project might be, somebody else is probably doing something goofier.

I find it vaguely unsettling at my age (71) that one by one, as surely as time passes, more and more of these bands are going to lose people to old age and/or failing health, and not wonder when it will be MY turn at the wheel.

I'm also 71 and see that conveyor belt of life sliding in my direction and how fast time is going with old age. Z.Z. Top is another band that seemed to come around the time I was starting to play and discovering a lot of monster three and four piece bands like ZZ, Free, Mountain etc. Perfect three piece with a monster rhythm section.

I guess I never updated this thread. My Worker is 20 year old now... and I FINALLY got up the nerve to disassemble it and polish it like I wanted to on day one.

For those who don't remember, all my wood was 'Acrylized' by Larry at Gallery Hardwoods. So it is all equally wood and acrylic... the wood was treated in a vacuum oven to completely remove all the air, then replace it with resin.

The only place I've seen in the Boston area that typically has at least one new Ric in stock is Mr. Music in Allston. Apparently GC sells them again, but I haven't seen one for sale in a store for at least three years. I'm sure it's regional, but Boston is a Ric Desert.

ZIO had the least controls but for some reason sounded the best in a gig situation. Unity is about 9:30 - 10:00 so you can also use it to underdrive, if you have a lot of pedals upfront

I have a mld pedal too. I like the Aguilar sim it has. It was great for me for a while but I have other pedals that do the same thing but better. It’s definitely true about certain pedals that just help your signal chain sound better sometimes I have a lot going on with my signal so it’s nice to be able to clean up everything and get the gain right before sending it out.

I changed the strings yesterday and moved the soundpost. After the bass adjusted itself it sounds really good, and amplifies well straight into the Clarus. Cutting the upper mids to 9:00 is perfectly workable. I did buy that Neutrik Timbre cable and will leave the pickup cable wide open. This bass out of the amp is much louder than my main axe which has the 3.3 cap, without overloading the input that I can hear. The added gain will be good.

If not, we'd need to figure out how to wire it to your liking and replace the pots and maybe the control plated to fit."

He also suggested I could choose to replace the console with an aftermarket unit with the options of downgrade, sidegrade, or upgrade.

I'm thinking that might be better than replacing it with an apparently cheaply made original, if I want to keep the bass. No idea of cost for any of those options yet. Tech is suggesting "If it were mine, I'd pull this control board and stick it in the case. Then 'd order a new jack plated and wire it passive only, old school, soldered.

That sucks. Since you rarely play in active mode, it might be best to go old-school passive.

I love the NTMB pre in my MTD Kingston. To me it is very organic sounding. Passive option on any active bass is a must-have IMO. The mid control is super versatile. Mine has the push pull - in the down position the freq is 250 and up it is 800. I get my desired tone with it centered, and then often during a tune where I need to pop out a little more I give a slight boost at 800, works great. Alternatively, I'll cut a smidge at 250 on the fly if it seems I need to clear up there, go for a little more scoop. Bass and Treble also very effective, a little goes a long way.

Hi all, I'm potentially selling a camera lens to a co-worker that lives in Canada and I'm curious on what added costs might need to be added to the entire transaction.

I'm reading conflicting advice on if a Made in Japan lens that was originally sold in the US will or will not trigger any tariffs for the buyer and what must be declared on shipping, I'm not sure if the country of product origin even matters for an used item.

The lens will be sold for $900 USD, I've added $50 to cover shipping and other costs.

Does anyone have any recent experience with this, I'm thinking that musical gear sales fall close enough to be relevant.

Dimarzio in general has always been "different" in its wiring color choices, but essentially easy to figure out:

- Red will typically be "+" and green will be "-". Black and white soldered together will have the pickup in series mode.
- If you want parallel operation, red and white are together as "+" and black and green become "-".

If you are sticking with one of the modes above, the plain wire is fine to attach to "-" with the green/green+black.
When you do them on a switch though (selecting between series or parallel), definitely make sure that the plain wire goes to a ground that is NOT attached to the colored wire section. That can introduce issues. Connect that to a separate grounded area.

I had something similar when reattaching the neck after defretting it. It turned out that the neck was marginally out of alignment and needed a small shim to align it correctly.

I couldn't agree with the kinda soulless and harsh sound of my P pickup, then i found pots were 500k, for some reason. Also, old pots were kinda janky too...

I had EMG GZR laying around, meant to be installed on my 7ender P. Bridge serves as a dummy for now, until new EMG vol pot comes, since it's a solderless set. Might change bridge pup in the future as well.

Sound is way fuller, and less harsher now. I'm pretty satisfied.

I talked with my tech guy. He said that it was probably a shielding issue. We checked and it was perfectly shield. So I thought it could be something weird. I took it the following week to another gig. It made a little bit of noise, but something more normal. I played the gig.

The following day, I changed the strings and, while adjusting it, the truss rod broke. I confirmed it with my tech and also with the retailer who sold it to me. I have more than 12 basses that I set up myself and never had any issue with any of them.

The retailer starts talking to the brand. They say that it is not covered by the warranty and that they can make me another neck. I pay full price for the neck of course (the retailer told me that he had a similar case with a Sandberg bass and Sandberg made another neck at a little cost). Today (19th Aug) the bass is sent to Poland so that they can make a similar neck. I have to pay sending it to Poland and also that they send it back to me.

So, to sum up, I spent 2500 Euros on a bass that it broke within two weeks. Now, I have to spend another 500 Euros on a new neck and 140 Euros delivering the bass... I cannot recommend this brand. My tech guy, by looking at the truss rod, said that the truss rod didn't look very good. He said that the screw didn't look in good condition. What is more, when we tried to separate the neck from the body, the screws were set very poorly. Two of them were stuck, impossible to move them (those are comments from my tech, who was working on the bass while I was in his workshop). Very poor QC in my opinion.

I know this brand has a good reputation, but it is not my experience. And the fact that they make me pay even for delivery, makes me a huge customer dissatisfaction.

It’s unfortunate that Adrian didn’t address this for you, that’s truly disappointing. I’m sorry you’ve had this type of experience, it seems to be an anomaly rather than the norm. I hope the replacement neck at least resolves the quality issue for you, it’s truly unfortunate that it’s at your expense however.

Jimmy with Steve Gadd and Mike Landau is such a great band especially live, as was the trio he had with the recently departed Mike Miller and of course the legendary Holdsworth performances which made such an indelible impression on me.

Maybe post there at the Alembic Club - I bet some of the JJ fanatics will have some leads, if not the man himself!

I kind of kick myself for never catching Allan Holdsworth, he played locally to me plenty of times, I was just out of the loop...

I'm going to guess every NHL GM has a dartboard with Danny Briere's picture on it. He singlehandedly upset the financial apple cart by offering a 0.7 ppg player a whopping $18M, which in turn lead to every other player in the category of "pretty good but not quite a superstar" to think they're also entitled to such riches. Fantilli, Gauthier, and a handful of other soon to be RFA/UFAs.

Gauthier turns down $13Mx4. Two months ago he likely would have signed for $11M.

On the other hand, perhaps Ducks GM Verbeek's tactics that backfired will spur on other GMs to not lollygag when it comes to their RFAs.
