Quick question about cab selection for gig tonight

Dudes and dudettes -

I am playing a gig where space is a premium (Triumph in Princeton). It is a two story place and we are packed into a corner. Last time my four piece played there I literally had the head of my bass over the ping ride on the drummer all night.

I play Genz Shuttle 12.0 and Markbass 102 (2x10) and 151 (1x15) cabs. I am going to only bring ONE cabinet. For a high ceiling, crammed in a corner gig, do I go with just the 2x10 cab or just the 1x15? Do I need boom or bite?

You need to play well Boom and bite can be EQ'd in and out of any cab.

I don’t like boom - so I’d take the 115. But if you’re saying your 115 is boomy and has no bite - I’d take the 210 and replace the 115 with a better 115.

If the whole band is sort of "corner loaded", I'd bring whichever has the smallest footprint and good mids. Likely the 210 stood on end.

Things can get woofy when you're in a corner like that. Dialing it up so it's sounds a little weak in the bass up close, it'll likely sit pretty good out front. Hard to keep the vocals clear/lyrics understandable sometimes in places like that, don't wash out the vocals.

I think, they think, the big drumkit takes up less space shoved in the corner. Failing to consider backline, PA mains, and how far out into the room you have to encroach just so your headstock doesn't take out your bandmates teeth. I also think this is why many bass players, including myself, like to set up stage left/drummers left/audiences right. It comes from playing in small bars. Our longer necks (for most of us who are right-handed anyway) can hang out off the edge of the "stage" that way instead of spearing the next guy over in the shoulder.
