TI flats - soundclips.

I had a set of TI flats lying around that I put on my Vigier Arpege yesterday. That bass will probably see some light, ss rounds again soon, but until I get a P-bass it will have the flats.

I was surprised by how versatile these strings are, and how bright they can be. The Vigier can be VERY bright and modern sounding, but still I wasn't expecting this from a set of flats.

I recently acquired a Lull passive P bass. I had an old set of TI flats laying around so I put them on the P.

What tone! I don't know if I'd keep them on for solo or chordal work but I don't think they can be beat on a gig.

Hope you end up leaving them on for awhile. The way they age is just gorgeous. It's like no other string, they way they just keep getting sweeter. They don't get brighter, or deader, or thumpier.

I will definitely keep them, but the plan is to get a nice P-bass for them.

Here's something...last night I replaced the Dean Markley Blue Steels I had on my old Guild B302 bass with some TI Flats that were lying around. The Flats interacted like crazy with the magnets in those big guild single coils---way more than the Blue Steels did. Which makes me wonder if there's any data out there on the magnetic susceptibility of different strings. I'll bet some of the amazing quality of the Flats (and they sound remarkable on the Guild) is that specific quality.

I've been nuts over Chromes, I'm hoping these TIs (should be in my hands tomorrow via Amazon Prime) will take my P to the next level.

Should I be ready to completely re-setup my bass?

Wow, nice playing. Amazing tone. Yes, Ti's are great, if you like them.......some folks can't get past the flexibility/low tension.
I have found that when switching to them from other, more 'ordinary' strings, a truss rod adjustment was needed, but that's all.

They are not for everyone (what is..), personally I love the feel. I usually use very light rounds, so the TI's feel just right to me.

If you come from heavy or high tension strings a little truss rod adjustement might be in order.

Ohh, and for the record (excuse the pun) the clips were recorded playing thru a TC RH750 with the RS210/RS212 stack.

I've used Fender jazz with maple before and i have also tried TI flat before. But after i have changed the neck to Indian rosewood neck, i have adjust the bridge as well. After that the strings become too 'loose' and simply impossible to play. But if i use round wound then tit sounds better than before.

I would like to try to use P bass with flats as well.

Surely, but not from me. These were meant just as a little taste of what the TI's can sound like, you will have to take the amp-spice with it. Perhaps someone else will do it.

I've been using TI Falts for a few years now, firstly on a Lakland Bob Glaub P Bass (absolutley awesome), the a Joe Osborne 5 string (not quite so good sound wise), and now on a fretless Lightwave 5 - amazing double bess vibe.

I'm sold on TI strings full stop, even if I do have to courier them from the US to get my hands on them

Okay, so my TIs will be in my hands today (Amazon's delivery is sub-prime this time around). I have never been more nervous about installing a set of stings. Don't get me wrong, I am a BOSS at normal (read: less than $25) string installation, but Sun Beams come with that disclaimer about crimping the stings before cutting to avoid "killing" them. Are TIs the same way? Will I even need to cut them? I ordered a proper long-scale set for my P FYI. Also, I read that the G is extra noodly and you have to give it special care to avoid breakage while wrapping around the post. Aaaahhh!

I will return the favor of any installation advice with DI P-bass sound clips. Thanks, all!

Don't think there's a need to crimp anything on the TIs. I've only heard of that with DRs (which I ignored with no problems).

Okay, I have my own video to share. However, this isn't to show off the breadth of these strings or my playing ability (LOL). This is just me plunking and riffing to demonstrate some string to string to balance issues I asked about at the bottom of the page here: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f16/first-time-installing-ti-flats-877036/
Long story short, the E and A seem ringy like rounds while the G and D strings seem quite "dead" (thuddy, muffled) in comparison. You'll also notice that my A in particular sticks out like a sore thumb and rattles when plucked open. I'm hoping that you guys, in particular 4string could help me diagnose some of these issues. I would like to work this out to make TIs my "string for life." FWIW, I did do a quick setup to compensate to the change in gauge and tension, so I don't think these totally setup related. Also, my pickups aren't "too" close to the strings: 6/32" give or take from the magnet poles according to my ruler.

Also, I recorded DI via my M-Audio Fast Track Ultra. No compression or anything.

Lastly, please excuse the sloppy rhythms and finger patterns... still getting used to these strings #excuses

Sounds like you have some fret buzz especially on the A string - have you checked string height for all strings? Sounds like the D and G may sit a bit taller than the other two?

One P bass, one set of TI flats..... my working setup for many years now, across many musical genres. In fact I've had the same set for around 12 years I think. They're still bright.
