I am curious about how the longer bass strings on an upright produce the same low E as a bass guitar.
I understand the basic physics of strings, that the looser longer and thicker the string, the lower the note. In that sense, how are strings on an upright NOT an octave lower. Or are they? It seems like they are so much longer that would produce a lower frequency.
I play bass guitar exclusively. After years I learned that the upright bass has the same range and has the same strings tuned in fourths. How does that translate over to the smaller bass guitar?
