11 warning signs of depression

I'm tempted to make jokes about this (12. Log in to TB more than twice a day, etc) but it's really no laughing matter. Depression is a serious condition, it causes tremendous suffering in people's lives, and people die from it (directly via suicide or indirectly via alcoholism, etc).

Please, if you recognize the signs in yourself or someone you care about, seek help.

Seasons in hell I call them, Bipolar Type 1 comedowns I would not wish on my worst enemy, and I mean that sincerely.

There are coping strategies that help, but you never get used to it that's for sure, it is a killer.

10 out of 11 there.

Have had that diagnosis in the past, these days I certainly don't feel like I did when I was diagnosed.

So not sure if depression or grad school . . . both seem to have the same symptoms . . .

It is one in the same. The level of depression among grad students is staggering. I had a pretty rough run through grad school, if you ever need to talk just drop me a pm.

Cheers for the offer :)

I think my masters pushed me over the edge initially, been much more focused through the PhD, thankfully(ish), light is at the end of the tunnel, only ~1 year left.

However, that does mean thesis writing ahead, so, aye, I may take you up on that!

You know, a few other people I know who have completed Ph.D programs have said the same thing to me, that the Masters degree was a more trying time for them. That is awesome news on being one year out from completion, ales all around!

Sounds like a plan to me!

Masters was certainly tougher in some regards, the biggest issue with the Masters, I found, was the intensity. Huge amounts to take in, next to no time to do it. It may have been slightly worse in my case because I jumped from BSc(hons) Biochem to a Physics Masters! In comparison, the PhD is more like a war of attrition.

Tbh I don't think there is anything wrong with a bit of depression, in fact some see sufferance as a choice sometimes. You will learn much imo, cognitive dissonance cannot be suspended and upheld in that frame.

Well... I guess I'm 91% not depressed according to Yahoo.
I like to eat meals at odd times, and have a fast metabolism, according to me.

Number 10 reminds me of something I heard on the radio recently about making your home safe for children. They said things like, "Don't put bleach in milk jugs" and "Don't keep electronic devices in the bathtub."
