Talking to a DB player this week who complained that video of his Mon night regular made it online, before he got home from the Downtown Arts district gig.
With the "I was there, pic on fb" a socially networked pop, that seem to show up at places where we gig, managing your Internet self is not entirely under your control.

Like the song sez "he knows who's been naught & nice".

I once had a video of my band show up online without anyone from the band posting it. Its too bad, as it was one of our worst live shows. But there it is. Luckily there were some much better videos also posted.

Vid of one open mike perfomance got posted online by an audience member before I even finished the song.

Usually, if you find something posted on Youtube/etc that you don't want up there, they'll pull it if you ask nicely, or they can make it private if they want to keep it for themselves. At the same time, GREAT way to inspire you to get serious with your practicing

We have an open mic/jam that we do, and one of our guitarists sets up a Zoom on a stand and records the whole thing - if you ask, he'll Dropbox whichever song you want to check out. Which is sweet. And pretty much stops the random smartphone videos. Players are far less likely to give it a whirl if they think they're going to end up eternally immortalized on the interwebs for people to judge.

This has happened to me too. There is a band I used to be in that has only been preserved on youtube with one badly shot video of an improvisation going nowhere.

Have started using a Tascam for most every gig, practice, jam I do. Keeps my soundcloud fresh.

Videos and cell phone shots are a bit more random. Always amazed to find myself tagged in someone's photo and its not me.

Had to have youtube pull a video made by my ex wife's class mate, about me being a deadbeat dad. Youtube pulled it in a heartbeat, and the Judge sure ate it up when I read the transcript in court! lol. Boy was she mad.

A young lady posted a video of my jazzy trio with her phone without our knowledge - then posted it to teh FaceBookz. Was kind of embarrassed 'til posts started rolling in about how much everyone enjoyed it.
Was a little surprised how much I look down at my fretboard. Hmmmm....

We've had a couple vids pop up on youtube and facebook. it's flattering.

outside of the band I wouldn't be happy if vids of me popped up.

It's happened to me a few times. No sir, I don't like it. I try to avoid it if I can, but it's the 21st century. Sometimes ya just gotta roll with it.
