Hi,
I'm looking to add a compressor to my rig that can give me some more sustain and some added warmth. I have a UA 610 for my studio and it sounds unbelievable! But I don't want to bring that out for gigs. Can anyone recommend a less expensive solution for the road? I have an extra single rack space (preferred) or I'm open to a pedal. I've heard good things about the Palmer Deepressor. Does anyone have any experience with that unit?

The Palmer was just announced at an EU trade show a few months ago, it is not available in any store yet. Lots of non-US websites have it listed, but NOT in stock. So the only people that will have used it would be people who have some inside connection at Palmer, like an employee or endorser--and naturally they would say good things.

Check the links in my sig for reviews of other comps. :)

I'm looking at the Deepressor as well, I like the simplistic design and I'm not willing to spend more than €100, so that leaves the Deepressor, Ashdown or BBE opto-stomp (or possibly EBS multicomp, although that one is borderline beyond my budget). Videos are few and far in between, and I can't seem to find any review on this one.

Just noticed that I already posted a comment in this thread :p So after all this time I finally committed to buying one of these. I have no experience with compressors so I'm not even sure I need one, but I figured I should at least try one, I can always send it back if it's not for me. I'll try to remember to share my thoughts and/or write a review.

Well I got one and here's the story.

I own a DOD Milkbox which I like very much but ultimately found it too noisy for my purposes.

I got the Palmer based on the you tube demos and I have to say I really love it. Very transparent and gives me a lot of sustain without damaging the tone any (imho). I've had a couple of times where I had a FM noise issue but after some investigation I've found that it's not the Palmer's fault. What is happening and something to consider is that any, and I mean any, noise in your signal and the Palmer really puts a klieg light on it. So you want to make sure you can live with that or that you eliminate any noise issues.

So the final verdict is that I love my Deepressor and it stays. I hope this helps.

Let me know if you have anymore questions.
