Really? No original band makes money? Wow that unbeliveable.

We have both. But to tell you the truth, if you're in it just for the money, you're in it fir the wrong reasons.

I'm about 25 miles from you. Tell me where there's a steady paying gig for an original band in Sullivan. There isn't even a steady paying gig for an original band in the city. And it isn't about being in it for the money, but a band that doesn't gig isn't really a band is it.

Now hold on buddy lol. I didn't say that we make a killing with only originals. But we do get paid....just not very much. Lol my point was to play for love of music not love of money. Where you from? Who do you play for? We end up playing at a place Called Just Bills in Overland alot because of our genre but like most places around here its all about turn out, the more people you bring the more you get paid regardless of covers or originals.

So you're doing open mics and pay to play? I am in Southern Jefferson County and my band plays Rockers, Jamm'in and other crapholes all over Jeffco and south county/city. We play stuff like Tool, AIC, RATM, Sublime, etc.

Don't get me wrong, I love hearing original bands. Truth be told, I prefer underground new music ANYDAY over the crap The Point drones out constantly. And as I said, we slide our own stuff in when we can. I think there are a lot of original bands though that look down their noses at cover bands, like they're too good or important to learn other people's stuff. If that were true, they would be getting paid because people would actually want to hear them. Now, I'm not saying ANY of this applies to you, but learning 50 or 60 covers will increase your exposure exponentially, as well as pay for your gas ( Overland is quite a haul from Sullivan) and feed your gear habit.

Actually, I have been thinking about finding a good original band to do some shows with. Do you have any recordings?

Its not really open mike but it does have alot of the OM feeling. We get in contact with just bills and set up shows. Also we have held our own shows around here. Yeah we have recordings. Check em out. Link Removed
Warning though we are death metal. That's why we are limited to venues luke Just Bills. Got a bug show coming up in june at the Stratford Bar and Grill off 141. Look up Skull Fest 2011 on you tube for more info on that. Funny I used live in JeffCo. Arnold more precise. Even went to Ridgewood Jr. high fir a stint.

Yeah, I got booted out of Ridgewood ( as well as the other 2 junior high schools in the Fox district). I grew up in Arnold, although probably long before your time. Arnold is a craphole these days. I am well south down in Methland now.

Do you mean The Stratford Inn at 270 and 44? We played there last year ( with a different lineup).

I'll check out your MS page. We plan on doing some outdoor parties and festivals this summer. Maybe even have a line on some county fairs. My drummer has some connections in Sullivan too.

Yeah you're right 270&44. Sounds good keep in touch and let's rock minds. Im 27. How long ago did you do time in ridge woods...lol...cause it feels like a prison. By the way names Tony Goly. Might be possible I know your drummer

In the 1980's i passed on some Original bands (in the basement) because i was in a great cover band making awesome money quality music and great crowds. now one of those bands is playing all over the country opening with all my favorite Bands. Was i Right or wrong? I am still doing as i was in the 80's successfully playing covers at fest and clubs, very happy with that too..

My orginals band makes good to decent money everytime we play. We pay for our website monthly and just funded all our studio time, mastering , production and pressing of our new CD and we only play 2-3 times a month. It can be done.

Yup, that's what we do. I have no interest in playing other people's songs no matter what you pay me. Music for me is not a job I do it because it's fun, if someone wants to pay me then great. If not, no big deal, I just want to play.
