well, I won't go so far as to say it looks interesting,but it makes sense.now you can get any fender pup config for affinity prices. I'd still take the VM Jag all day.
Alder body and 1.5" nut? Sounds pretty dang cool to me! For <$200 I might pick one up just to mess around with 
I discussed these in a fender thread last month. I toured the fender factory and 3 of these were on display and I stated that these were not something they sold to which they replied your correct there prototypes.

The old P Special was the Standard series, which has been usurped by the VMs, in this case by the Jags.
Curious about the alder body but there are other companies having SE Asian guitars built with it, just not so inexpensively.
My guess is that it won't end up being alder when production is fully underway. That type of change will not be a first.

The regular Affinity P-Bass is Alder as well.

Did some quick googling, seems another name for some types of agathis starting to be used is Asian Alder.
Remember the name agathis is about as specific as the name mahogony or rosewood. Many species with varied characteristics are known as agathis.

As far as I recall, the affinity series has been made of alder for a while. Of course, they probably aren't made of nice looking pieces and the bodies are probably made up of a lot of different pieces of alder.
These basses interest me, especially the white one. I'd probably buy one at that price.

IMHO the quality of agathis and alder can overlap. There are so many types of each (most woods in fact) that I'd pick on sound and resonance before what someone calls it.

Seriously though, I think I just may have to get one. Probably in white and maybe add some black racing stripes to the top. Just, y'know…'cause.

Wow the new colors for the Affinity J along with a 3 ply guard instead of the single ply and a gold logo instead of just black looks wayyy better.
I will be getting a burgundy mist just for the body and selling the rest of the parts.
