which do you prefer? I personally love the look and feel of maple necks. Sorry if this has already been posted, but I didn't know about it. Also, I meant maple rosewood fretboard.

Poll: Maple or Rosewood Neck?

Ain't seen a rosewood neck in a long time....very, very pricey.
However, my Spector has a maple neck and it's the nicest neck I've ever played.

I am assuming you are referring to the fretboard and not the whole neck. I prefer rosewood or ebony fretboards myself. I find an all maple neck a little sterile/harsh to my ears, YMMV.

...but I totally agree. Though it also depends on what pickups you got, Ive found alot of maple neck/fretboards tend to be a bit on the bright side for my taste. But thats a good thing for some people.
i like combinations of bodies to boards....my '07 fender jazz deluxe (alder body/rosewood board) has a noticeably darker tone than my '77 jazz (ash body/maple board) which is so bright it cuts through anything. sound guys have to compress the hell out of it!

I am a huge Geddy Lee fan and have his signature bass - I guess that would explain why I love maple necks - I just love the crunchy clear sound that geddy and his bass have.
I don't like light colored fretboards, cos they get those dark gunky finger smudges that show up more. Maple is softer and has a nice tone, but it is not for me...

My Jazz 5 is going to be a combination of rosewood neck/3ts body/red tort guard when I finally get the guard back from being cut

I have a parts P-Bass with a Special Edition MIM Jazz neck from a FMT Jazz bass. And that neck has one of those "Pau Ferro" fingerboards. I like it a lot....It actually has a tone between maple and rosewood. Not as bright as Maple but not as dark as Rosewood. I'd love to find another neck like it. )-(
