Mørch bass owners unite!

My 35" singlecut. Koa top on an Ash body, 7pc neck, wenge fingerboard, modded with Delano soap bars and Audere pre. An exquisite bass that makes me happy every day! :bassist:

I'm in the midst of making some new covers; I'll post better pics when they're finished.

Thought it was time to revive this thread. My cover project is moving along. So far, I have added a wenge control cavity cover and a multi laminate truss rod cover to match the head stock. Battery compartment cover will be wenge as well.

Eventually, I'd like to add some pickup covers, wood knobs, and perhaps a ramp.

Pretty good Danish - only misspelled bass, which should be "bas" :)

Every time this thread is bumped I'm stumped by the fact that nobody else here seems to own one of Johnny's marvelous creations, should at least be a few Danish members that have them. Doesn't TB member Cosmicevan still own a few Mørch basses, also?? I remember he had 2 or 3 of them a while back and sounded like he wasn't planning on selling them.

My Danish is very basic - I'm working on it in my spare time. I cannot say "Rødgrød med flød" perfectly, but I can come pretty close.

This fretless 5 used to belong to Cosmicevan. As far as I can tell, he still owns his 6 string curl bass.

lol...been a while since I've been on talkbass (been killing time on the web mostly on beeradvocate these days and running around with my baby daughter - 12 weeks old).

I used to own that fretless 5'er and your 6 string. Both are great instruments!!! aside from becoming a CT convert, I still have one non-CT bass, my Morch 6'er.

also, that 5 string fretless was a wedding gift from my wife. she was cool with me parting with it to get my first CT. enjoy those basses, they are tone monsters!!!

They sure are! The fretless 5 has become my go-to and the six is my stepping stone to the 38" CT fretless that is supposedly due soon.

That's an amazing curl bass you have there!

Were you the second owner & do you know anything about the guy who ordered these? Johnny told me someone named Joe Goshburgh ordered them originally.

I guess you could say that I was the original non-store owner. They were sold to Joe Gershberg who used to run Joey G Music in NYC. It was a super high end bass shop that specialized in handmade imported instruments. I worked with that shop for a little while and was there when they came into the store. I always felt that Morch basses shined over the rest of the instruments we had and we had everything! The timing wasn't right and that was when the Euro was about double the dollar so the business eventually went defunct. After I left the company, I bought the 5 fretless from Joe. Later on down the road, the remaining inventory from Joey G Music (also known at one point as The Bass Loft) was sold off to a store on Long Island in a bulk sale and I bought a bunch of the basses from the guy who ended up with the inventory (which included that 6'er). At the time I was pretty fickle about my bass preference and at one point owned over 20 high end instruments. I've since figured out what works best for me and parsed things down to the 4 I have now (32" No Frills CT 4, 36" CT 4, 36" No Frills CT 5, and my Morch Curl 6).

Morch instruments aren't all that well known, most likely due to the small production and the fact that most are not in the states, but there are a few of us in the know on these. The fat fingers in your 6 string (also in my curl) are possibly the best pickups I've ever heard. I love the fact that you can toggle between single and double coil and passive and active (mine even has passive tone shaping which works for the active pre as well). They are really fine instruments...if I have a complaint, it would be the weight on those bad boys.

Enjoy those basses, they are phenomenal.
