Lately, I have been really digging dead rounds, I dont know why, I usually like my strings fresh and bright, but for the past month Ive been just playing with dead rounds , anybody else experienced/ experiencing this lately ? Or am I just nuts ?

What is it with me and dead rounds ?

Oh man - not me! I live for the sound of bright sparkly fresh new stainless rounds, and I usually change my strings after about 20 hours of play.
^^ Same here. I wouldn't call them "dead" but rather broken-in. The only time I'd call them dead is when they snap into two.

I used to have a period where i kept the same rounds on my jazz for 3 years without changing them, sounded fantastic!
Took them of one day, replaced them and i never managed to get THAT sound again!
Got so sick of not getting the thump back that i ended up putting chromes on it...
Thump cam right back, better than ever!

I have one year old strings that I have no plans to take of any time soon. Only thing they are missing is a little responsiveness for slap.
reed mathis used the same roundwound strings for 17 years. on tour the whole time..
i like less extreme dead rounds, they feel nice. but the sound of new rounds, thats where its at.

I've been using flats on virtually all my basses for a number of years now. The Stingray Classic is the only one I keep rounds on. BUT... When I used to use rounds, I definitely preferred when they got old. Never liked the brightness of new rounds.

I used to ONLY play dead strings to the point where I would only buy other peoples used strings. Not strange at all. I think there are quite a few people who like the "flats with more edge" vibe.
I love the sound of fresh Roto 66s, but I've had my current set on there for nearly a year now, and I really do love the sound they make. Plenty of bite when the tone knobs up, and huge thump with it backed off. So yeah, I'm a fan of both broken in and brand new Swing 66s.
