I'm a happy owner of an Ampeg B-100R and have been looking at the B-200R with keen interest. I like the tube in the preamp and the extra power of the B-200R. I guess my question to you out there with experience with these two amps is, are the sonic differences between these two amps significant enough for me to make the upgrade. In reality, and extra 100 watts is not a lot louder and can you hear the tube in the preamp?

I just hope the B200r is not like the BA115HP. I played one of those at a rehearsal room and I can say from first hand experience that the B100R blows the BA115HP away, I don't care about the numbers.
Lync or others-- Can you elaborate? I was going to buy the Ampeg BA115HP at GC. It was hard to tell much in Guitar Center but they did not have the B200r in stock anyway. I liked that the BA115HP had the horn an adjustable L pad for the tweeter. I would assume it to be louder than the 100 watt counterparts. What type music do you play? (We are classic rock)...Thanks for your insight.--lowbo
I play classic rock also. I have been GAS'n for the BA115HP for a while now (even though I own a B100R). I like the fact that it has a built-in tuner and seems to be a great total combo solution. My regular rig is a Thunderfunk into either an Ampeg classic 15 or 6x10HLF (depending on the gig size), but I am always on the lookout for a nice combo.
Anyway-I couldn't hear myself with the BA115HP. It just wasn't there. It was loud, but just lost if you know what I am saying. Maybe the low mid/high mid control that is on the B100r (but not BA115hp) is the secret? It just didn't do it for me, and certainly didn't seem better than the B100r (or even close to it).
I wonder if the new BA115HPT is better?

Thanks Lync, that was helpful. I do think I know what you are saying. Maybe I can get GC to bring the B200R in so I can compare with the BA115HP. Sure would be nice to have the B100R there too but that would be pushing my luck.
I think you are the first on the forum to say they have played both the new BA115HP and the diamond rocket series. I did hear someone here play and like the B200R but they had not mentioned playing the BA115HP.

The comparison between the Ba115Hp and the B2 combos are very interested to me too because I can buy anyone of them for the same price, second hand of course (550), but I don't know which of them is better.

Just for the record-I haven't played the new BA115HPT or the B200R yet, just the BA115HP (which has been out for 3 or 4 years), and I have owned up to two B100R's (I recently sold one).
From what I know about these mid-line Ampeg combos and if I was buying another, I would take a shot with the B200r (and hope it doesn't sound like the BA115HP).
Sorry for any BA115HP owners out there (I really wanted to like that amp, but was just extremely disappointed)-everyone's ears are different and it may work for some depending on the situation though.
A tuner included in a combo amp is really a nice option, I wish more combo manufacturers would do this (or even put a tuner in an amp head).
