Ampeg B-200R or the Ampeg BA115T

I Will be buying a combo bass amp in the near future, I want to know the best out of the two combo amps, and the differences of the B-200R or the, Ampeg BA115T (Besides the wattage. Anywhere the price of $500-$600 in a diffrent brand, I also like Gallien Krueger, please let me know.) What are the differences in tone in the two. I also would like to know other combos in this price range that have good quality also, like Gallien Krueger. I would like to know your opinions if there a big difference between the B200r and the BA115T. I'm looking for headphones that can handle a low "B" string also, so any suggestions would be great. I'm playing a 5-string G&L 2500, And I really would like to know what head phones could handle a low B. And your opion on Ashdown MAGC115T Bass Combo

There are a bunch of threads about the B200r and it seems like there are some problems with it (it blows fuses). However, the B200r is more comparable to the BA115HPT. If you are ok with the lower wattage on the BA115T, maybe you should look into B100r. Lots of positive reviews on that one. You should also check out the HUGHES&KETTNER Quantum series. They seem to be a good option for those who want a combo with somewhat of a tubey sound.

I have had both the BA 115 And the B100R and the Ba115 1. is noisy and has that classic SS Ampeg Mud sound The horn is very harsh. The B100R on the other hand has the B15N Tone without all the expense. Nice tube sound without a tube and still articulate enough without the hissy horn.

Thanks for the reply I think I will go with the Hughes & Kettner Quantum QC415 if they still have these in stock, I might have to save up for a month or so to buy it comfortably. The 15" combo is the only one that I can see is shipping from the U.S.

Also what kind of headphones that you've heard can handle a low b string and not sound muddy. brand/model

I know that wyleeboxer is waiting to get his B200R delivered. I am sure he'll post and write what he thinks of it, so keep your eyes open for that :). I'll am going to buy the HPT or QC412 when I have decided which one to get, and I'll let you know what I think of whatever choice I make.

The B200R issue has been identified.

That unit was one of the first from an off-shore vendor (not in Vietnam, BTW). They fouled up......... in a very silly way that shorted the output in "without horn" setting. :rolleyes:

It's a simple fix, which will be done to every unit we can locate, and should be no reason to avoid the unit once the issue has been dealt with.

IMPORTANT: If you have one, do NOT use the "without horn" plug for the moment.

Sorry, I don't have any info on the repair as to whether it will be a field fix or a "ship back".

That is good to hear Jarrold. However, from what Ive heard so far, its a return only option as Ampeg no longer uses outside service centers for their warranty work?
I ordered a H&K QC421 yesterday from Jims music (who have been great BTW) to replace the new b200r on the way for 2 reasons. One being reliability which is something unfortunately hasn't sounded all the best from ampeg these days, even with some of their other equipment?? the other reason was that the new b200r was supposed to be here about week ago.
So, Im kind of waiting to see which one shows up first, maybe be able to test them out side by side, and bring home the winner which hopefully wont fail on me during a gig?????? :eyebrow:

One other thing Jarrod, when I installed the new slo-blo fuses I was connected to the with-horn setting and the amp still blew out the fuse (twice with new same exact fuse) the second I turned it on?

Thanks for chiming in, Jerrold. Please keep us here at TB apprised about the fix. There are a lot of folks here who love the B100R and hope the B200R is just bigger and better, but are worried about this recent bug.

I also wanted to add that in general, the BA series and Rocket series amps are so different you wouldn't think they came from the same manufacturer. I recently spent an hour doing A-B comparisons between the BA115HT and B100R in a local music store. It's an unfair comparison in terms of wattage, of course: The appropriate comparison with the BA115HT would be the newer B200R, but we couldn't get one. Despite the volume difference due to wattage, I still chose the Rocket. The BA amps have a huge, window-rattling bottom end, but otherwise a pretty clean and (to my ear) unremarkable tone. With the Rocket, however, the sound seems to explode out of the speaker, especially in the huge and fat midrange. The Rocket and BA amps are qualititatively different, so it's a matter of taste which way to go.

Interesting. I have one a love it. However, I've only been playing it "without horn". With the horn is was getting some buzz inermittently, like what you would experience with a bad tube. Do all B200r's have this problem or only a certain run? Mine is over 8 months old... prior to the overseas switch and says "Proudly made in the USA" on the back.

Back to the tone, this amp has it ya'll! It's a beast, but I'm very pleased. Warm, fat, clear and the mids are voiced just the way I like 'em. If this bad-boy had a speaker out (like the old fliptops) to add another 1x15 down the road I'd be set for life.

I am really suprised this line of Ampeg Combos has not been discussed more.

I have not had a chance to play through one, ad have not seen them anywhere.

I am in love with the tone I get out of my band mate's BA115, and wish it had more power.

But this new line looks great.

hey there to all, i was directed to this thread beacause of the fuse problem i'm having with my b200r . I've tried both with and without horn jacks, and it blows the fuse imediately in both instances. I'm the third owner of this amp, and all i know is that it was purchesed at musicians friend. I contacted them to ry and get a copy of the original sales receipt, and supplied them the serial number and upc number from my amp, but they said.
