Classic GC:So I get my FSR Hot Rod Jazz in the mail and....

It came in a Dean guitar box. Clearly not NIB like they stated over the phone.

Here is the bad part...the case is locked and they either forgot to put the keys in the box or they put them in the case!

Yeah Im pretty pissed. Oh well. :confused:

What kind of case? Was it the brown tolex G&G? If so, most standard case keys will probably open it. Do you have any other case keys sitting around that you could try? If not, take it to a local music store to see if they have a key that will open it.

Is it the new, TSA approved black case? If so, I don't mean to offend or insult you, but those cases have a second lever behind the one you see. If you just pull up on the visible, outer latch, it will feel as though it's locked. But reach farther under and you'll feel a second piece that you have to pull on first. It might not be locked at all.

Im in High Point NC, however I don't currently have a car its in the shop. Thats why I had to order this bass over the phone...

Hopefully my roommate will be going up to the Greensboro GC (the store I ordered from) this weekend. If he is, hopefully GC will have a set of keys there.

Its the deluxe brown tolex one that normally comes with the bass, however how they rung up the bass and the case as different sku's and the fact that it came in a Dean box leads me to believe this is not THE case that came with the bass, if it matters.

Actually, that IS the case that should come with that bass. It's a great case, by the way. I almost bought one about a month ago at my local G.C. It's S/N indicated that it's an '06, so it had been in the store quite awhile.

I wouldn't worry about the Dean cardboard box. They probably had the bass for awhile (similar to the one here in Memphis), so they just grabbed whatever shipping box was handy.

The case won't be difficult to unlock if you can find someone with a Fender case key. But I certainly understand your frustration in not being able to open it when you want to. Just don't get pissed and try to pry it open or anything! Do you know of any other T.B.'ers nearby that might have a key? Any Fender dealers nearby? Keep us posted on how it turns out, and good luck. And congrats on a sweet-looking bass!

I know its the case that is supposed to come with the bass, it just may not be THE ORIGINAL case that came with the bass. Probably just an extra and they threw the bass in there.

Was the info/warranty stuff inside your case when you bought yours?

Okay you are probably not as dumb as me but here's what happened to me.

When I bought the bass and took it home, I thought the case was locked too and I called the GC for the salesperson and asked. (my first time w/ those G&G cases)

Turned out I was trying to push the buttons in to open the latch instead of pushing them to the sides.

So yeah....

I did not buy this on line. I bought this thru my local Guitar Center at school here in NC.



What I haven't mentioned already is the fact my salesman did not do his job fully LOL. The bass was located in Tennessee, and he rang it thru, charged me but did not fax the Tennessee folks the necessary info documents for them to have to OK and ship it out! :rolleyes:

So, it was sitting there for a few days, and when I called the Tennessee store they were like...uh we don't have what we need to send it out. :ninja:

Did your warranty info/case candy come inside the case?

Too bad about the crappy service. On the bright side it shouldn't be to hard to get a key for that. I used to work at the GC accessory dept. we had a bunch of case keys in a small bin. A couple of times we had folks come in looking for a key and we just gave them one. I also have picked a key lock with a pin. It's not too hard...
