Hi!

I sense everyone is always aflutter about Timmy C.'s (RATM, Audioslave) distorted tone, and Chris Wolstenholme (Muse) close behind...

I was wondering who you people think is the next big distortion/od/fuzz player...

I personally think it may be Jesse F. Keeler from Death From Above 1979, but let's hear some opinions!

"Next big thing" is a funny idea- when someone is just getting their first press, most people haven't heard of them yet, so we have no idea if they are going to get big; by the time more people have heard of them, are they still "the next big thing"?

I have to admit, though, I never heard of DFA until here in the Effects forum a few months ago. Maybe that's a sign of next-big-thingdom!

i think P-nut from 311 would if he used distortion more often, like on a new album or something.

Maybe ben kenney from incubus too, theyre due for a new cd this winter or something i heard......they're not as good anymore, but they still have the potential to impress me.

last one....Juan Alderete from the Mars volta, theyre getting pretty popular around here. He uses a lot of effects.

or not, i dont know.

Anyone agree with any of these?

Pnut used to use it a fair bit on the early ones.... but then again he also did a lot of other things more than he does now too.

I duno, theyre a pretty popular band and while p-nut's not the MOST impressive bassist, i bet if he did some cool lead line with distortion on a popular song or something. im sure people would be all "WHAT EFFECT IS P-NUT USING?"

311 is pretty consistent with new cds every 2-3 years. I imagine they wont waste any time making another one in the next year.

You know, I've been listening to Rage Against the Machine since 1992 and it was about 6 months ago that I found out Timmy C. was some big deal. Solid player? Absolutely. Some sort of prophet? No way.

The dude from Colour Haze has an absolutely KILLER distortion tone, but I'm sure will not be any big deal because 1) he is too good and 2) his band is waaaaaaaay too amazing for the masses to recognize. :)
