I'd bet there will be some major bidding wars on original MM pickups on ebay after these come out.
They look good for the money, but it's the pickup/electronics that really makes the 'ray sound, IMO.

I'm surprised at the dark remarks. I thought people were pretty excited to see these come out. I admit to have been checking the site. First blush however, the natural doesn't do it for me. Now that nat jazz with white block binding....
i'm excited for this bass. who knows if i'll get it? i'm gonna wait to see what others think of it. if it can do the MM Stingray tone, i'll definately get it. i don't expect it to, but maybe. i like the binding on the neck

.I think they're cool. I'm playing my upright bass more now, so I can't justify pending 1k on a real MM. I honestly just like the looks of them and the feel of the neck. So a copy is pretty much waht I'm looking for.
I don't think anyone expects these to compete with real Stringrays the way other SX's compare with MIM Fenders. Rarely do people compare an SX to a MIA Fender, and QC with MM's is even better than MIA Fenders.
Most people are hoping for an alternative to the OLP's which don't seem to have the best following from what I've seen. I've never played an OLP myself, but some day I will own a Stingray since nothing seems to sound like one.

This is exactly right.I would also surmise that there are some folks who'd like to experiment with different electronics/necks/etc. -- things that nobody would want to do on a $1,000 Stingray.

The problem though you can not compared a MM SUB to the SX, it is made in america, with US EBMM QC and hardware.

Any SX, you need to figure about an extra $100 to make it playable, the pickups are usually OK, but the pots, jack, bridge, nut, strings and shielding and tuners need to be worked. However it is a fun project!
