Wut kind of effects do bassists use in Doom/Sludge Metal?

A wide array of distortions, overdrives, and fuzzes, as well as massive walls of amps and cabs. The options are so many, and the doom sound so easy to get if you have two dist. pedals or a loud tube amp, that there's almost no point in recommending any specific pieces.

ever heard about a band called YOB ? here's a quick excerpt from an interview:

Mike (guitarist): I use two MATAMP GTO-140 heads into three 4x12 cabs with a AB switch..I have two Les Pauls (my fave being a Historic Collection 1957 black Les Paul Custom)..I use a ROSS Distortion into a MXR Dyna-Comp for distortion and a MXR Phase 90, plus a Morley Bad Horsie

In the "Pedalboards of the stars" thread, it's made clear that the gut from Boris uses like 3 or 4 fuzzes, I know it's not exactly doom metal, but it's droning music. also you might wanna check a delay or a reverb or both.

most doom or sludge bands I've heard generally seem to just tune down so low that the strings are pretty slack, giving a droning, sludgy sound.
Don't let these people talk you out of awesome pedals. You know you need the Ezekiel. Listen to it.

!!! Don't worry, when I play stoner/sludge/doom I use my Blue Berry instead of my Sunn amp.
But if you like added effects, these will fit very fine:

- fuzz
- phaser

by the way.... can someone make a little list here (or direct me to where such a list exists) of some examples of doom/sludge bands for me to check out?

Although it seems (from a quick read through) that they have left out Electric Wizard, whose "Electric Wizard/Come My Fanatics" double CD absolutely crushes everything else in the genre IMO.
