Smell from new Markbass LMII?

So I took my LM-II I bought 1.5 weeks ago back to GC as planned to trade in the floor model I brought home for a "new in box" product. GC was out of LM-II's (go figure!) and they let me use the floor model until they got one in.

Anyway, I brought home the new one, took it out, and fired it up. Sounds and works great, but it is producing a really rank burning/chemical smell. I've had it on for probably 4-5 hours, and it's not abated.

Anyone had this experience? If so, how long did it take to go away? I kind of wish I'd just kept the floor model.

I just opened mine yesterday and it stunk, but that might just be the new amp smell or plastic/foam in the packaging. It doesnt stink now though. I had it on for probably 5 hours yesterday. It looks so nice on top of my GS-112. Couldn't be happier!
:hyper:

So let me clarify...the smell is coming out of the fan in the back. It doesn't stink (to me) when it's not on.

did you have that issue?

It could be left over chemicals from etching the ciruit board. I've noticed this in new computers I've bought. Check it again tomorrow. If the smell is as strong as today or stronger you may need to bring it back.

When i ordered mine, the salesman warned me about the "Markbass" scent. I opened the box at the G.C. when it arrived , and sure enough, it stunk. I just checked mine after reading your post, and the odor is a bit stronger at the fan, but i dont think your amp is burning up. smells to me more like solder mixed with paint... leftover assembly odors. If it does not go away, you've got 60 days to try and melt her down!

hmm, thanks guys....

actually...it does stink when it's not on as well. must just be like you said - manufacturing leftover stinkage. as long as it goes away - no worries.

peter m. mentioned that some of them stink and it will go away.

incidently, GC told me that they will no longer offer the LMII in the future. presumably because of the F1?

peter?

That would be stupid.

p.s. mine only sounds funky;)

Almost two weeks. I haven't been playing it more than about 10-20 minutes at a time, and just a couple-few days. Been pretty busy.

I think it will eventually go ahead. But for now, ain't it stank!!
My wife shut the door on me, and I had to keep it shut for the first couple days.
