This is for all the Nordy fans out there. Whether you're an owner, looking to have one built or just curious about them.

Post pics and specs of your Nordy if you have them! :)

Mine's a-comin' in about 3 months! This is my first Nordy, but I've owned (and still do) many of Carey's excellent custom basses.

Mine's an alder bodied 4, rosewood board, single-coil pickups, and in Daphne Blue. Should look and sound ridiculous!!

I ordered through Scott Pazera at Pazera's Music, and the service was/is EXCELLENT!!!!

To be honest, because I really like how it looks. Like a big ol' Texan Belt Buckle ( I am so not that type, lol! )
I thought it would bring some bite even if there is dampening from all that mass, but I like the 70s tone and really like badass, the standrd bridge is way more than fine

I didn't post this yet (been sick and busy) BUT I played a Nordy 5er about three weeks ago. REALLY nice. I might have Carey build me onethis summer but I am going to have to tweak it a bit for me. A little customization.

Great tone though. Deep, thick, punchy. Played great. Different neck profile than a Sadowsky but it was nice. The price is right too. Really nice.

I can almost guarantee my next bass will be a Nordy J5!

BTW, the one I played was the Silver one on the Nordy site. Alder Body, Rosewood Fretboard. Big Splits or Fat Stacks. Not sure and neither was the shop. Heck, they called Carey and he couldn't remember. LOL

Mad love for the Nordy J5 though. TOP quality bass. I hope to own at least two!

I've got my sights set on ordering a Nordy VJ4.
I'll most likely get the 3TB paint job with a Tort p/g.
I'm just unsure as to body wood, board, and pickup config.

I already have a Sadowsky PJ4 chambered alder with morado.

I think for the Nordy a Birdseye Board (no face dots) but can't decide on the body wood.

Also, I have not seen a 4banger with the Fats yet. Those are some kicking pups. I also think I might go passive.... hmmmm.

All right folks .... fire away!

I too have a Nordy Vj5 on order after seeing Adrian's VJ5, and then hearing the soundclips. I also ordered through Scott Pazera, who is simply wonderful to work with. (and what a monster musician he is!)

I am on the fence regarding PU's but I'm leaning toward the Big Splits. I love a single coil sound. The big splits appear to offer a big meaty Single Coil sound, but are humcancelling. How cool is that? While the Fat Stacks are equally popular and perhaps a bit more versatile, I am reminded that I always play my F Bass in Single Coil mode, even though it can also be played in Humbucking mode. So the Humcancelling Big Split might just be the ticket!

I was also going to mimick Adrian's color scheme, (White/White pearl blocks/Birdseye) but I am now leaning to trans-Coral Blue on Swamp Ash with Birdseye Maple FB/White pearl blocks and binding and White Pearl Pickguard. Mmmm)

I too wondered about the stock hipshot bridge, but it's good hardware and Carey wouldn't use it if it wasn't up to snuff. If memory serves, the bridge on Celinders are almost the same, but are branded with the "Celinder" name. Other than that, they look like the same Hipshot bridge.

If it was me, I'd go with Alder in 3 tone burst and a rosewood board with Stacks.

But that's just me... :D

So.. I'm a huge rosewood fan too and I like alder for sure.
Scott was telling me that for a small upcharge I could get the Birdseye board which is really appealing to me. I guess maple boards go equally as well with ash or rosewood. It's all taste.

I will ask the Nordy Club this. Do Nordys in general have any appearent darkness or brightness etc. to them?

I ask because most everyone agrees that Sadowsky basses have a inherent 'brightness' to them. I find this to be pretty accuate. This is why I would only choose rosewood on a Sad. I will say though, that my Sad NYC JJ4 (ash/rosewood) is darker/thicker sounding than my PJ4 which is chambered and has a morado/rosewood board. Morado is actually pretty bright compared the Brazilian RW on my JJ. According to Sadowsky the chambered bodies don't affect tone.

Question for Nordy lovers;

If I go for Trans-Coral Blue on my upcoming Nordy VJ5
(Swamp Ash/Birdseye Maple/White Block Inlays/Binding), Should I go for a matching Coral blue headstock, or leave it natural?

I'm thinking it might look strange since the headstock is maple, but the body is grained swamp Ash. Thanks for your opinions!

PS: Dean, I asked a couple Nordy Dealers that question about Wood Combinations and tonal variations. They both said essentially the same thing; The tone of a Nordy is more directly related to the PU's rather than the wood choices. My own conventional wisdom however has a hard time accepting that. I too would love to hear from those who have played Alder/Rosewood Nordys compared to Ash/Maple Nordy's. Gary

Personally for such a cool color like Coral Blue, I'd do the matching headstock. That would rule!

Gary thanks for your support on my question about 'the' tone.

About your matching head stock. You ain't gonna like it my friend....

Anyway, NO. My good buddy had a beautiful Sadowsky that played sooo nice and I wanted it soooo bad. It was a gorgeous blue body, white p/g, BEM board, and the matching head stock in the blue. I just could not love it or even like it. For some reason, to me, it looked like a guy with pearly white legs (wearing dark shorts) and matching socks... Another words it looks like he forgot to put his pants on...

Sorry man, not for me.

edit: I will say though with a dark board that effect is not any were near the upset as with maple.
Also as with Adrian's bass the white is OK or should I say a very light color looks fine with maple. JMHO>
