I didn't find any thread or comments on this topic, and would appreciate any comments or experiences...
My pianist (we are a quartett) likes to fiddle around with bass ampflication ideas, and we've had long exchanges about where my amp should be placed, etc. Now we have a several gigs that will be in big tents of, say, 1500 square yards. For these gigs he thinks I should run the DB completely through the PA, and use my not inconsiderable amp (Clarus III with EA Wizzy 112) as a monitor only. I haven't played DB much using PA, but once I did and had massive feedback, even with just a piezo pickup. So I am not inclined to agree.
I am wondering if any of you with PA/amp experience can tell me:
1. Will the DB sound as good coming out of the PA as out of my Clarus/Wizzy set up? Is that technically possible, given that it's not designed for DB?
2. Should I use my Clarus/Wizzy as my primary amp and, if needed, supplement that with the PA? I am not convinced I will need PA at all.
3. Typically, what is the right mix for an area the size of a large tent? Should I rely mainly (70%) on the amp or mainly on the PA?
I'd be grateful for any and all comments. Thanks!
