Your first bass

I still have mine. It is a metallic red Vester P+J 4 string. I took it out to play it a couple of months ago, and the pots were all scratchy and the jack was spotty. I'm keeping it around if I ever have a kid that wants to play bass. I'll upgrade the electronics in it, polish it up and give it to him/her as their first bass.

See, I am an idiot without a village....

I traded my first bass (A used Cortez P copy) in for my first new bass. My first "Real bass" I thought at that time...I then sold that new bass (Peavey t 40) and didn't touch a bass for 12 years. Then I bought another (Ibanez) and, 6 months later, sold that one too! Fast forward another decade, I now have 2 (read my signature) I will prolly never sell....but then with me you never know.....I do know this now though, I will never be without a bass again.....they may come and go but never without one....

30 years ago, for my 16th birthday I got Fender Musicmaster (Lake Placid Blue) and matching Musicmaster amp.

It was a great bass to learn on, and sounded very "Fender", the Strat pick-up was cool, it was cheap... couple years later I stripped the polyester finish off and clear coated it... eventually traded it in, got a lot more than I paid originally... that then went to bass #2 my 4001 Ric... which served me well until I came to Japan. The Ric is still stateside.

My first bass was a 1968 Kawai Concert. I didn't know what it was at the time, but I found out later. In 1972 removed the frets from it. I let someone borrow it in 1974 and never got it back.

Looked just like this black guitar version.

Wish I still had it. :(

I saw a photo of Mike Watt playing a slightly different one.

My first good bass was a 1974 Rickenbacker 4001 in MapleGlo. I still have that bass. :)
