I posted a thread in the Miscellaneous forum called "The Best Bass - A Game" back in August. The game took off and was quite popular, the thread was even moving a little faster than Song Uno. Though the game spun a little contraversy as some players didn't like my rules - as follows:
Here's how the game works, Each bass brand starts with 10 points, and you + 1 point to your favorite brand, and - 1 point to the brand you didn't like. And if a brand hits zero, it is eliminated.
You get to vote ONE +1 point and ONE -1 point PER DAY. Please don't go against this. It will ruin the game. It's supposed to go for a very long time.
Every time you put your answer you must copy and paste the new list. When an instrument is eliminated, just put a zero next to its name so we can see what it was. Do not delete its name. If you have a brand to add - add it to the list beginning with 10 points, or 11 if you voted for it.
Also write a + or - sign and indicate which instrument you voted for
Here's a few to start with...
10 Fender
10 Ibanez
10 Spector
10 Warwick
10 Jackson
10 Gibson
Good Luck
As it happened in the first few pages of the thread the brand Warwick was the first to be attacked by the original posters and consequently the first to be eliminated. Later in the game some members didn't read the rules properly and tried to revive some of the eliminated brands such as Warwick.
These were some of the comments I received:
this thread is stupid, its gonna cause major flaming when the first bass is eliminated.
A i can't believe i was the first Warwick vote.
B you weren't... it was voted off the list already. You cannot bring it back
A well thats BS!
B no, it's how the voting went... one + & one - from each person... no more than once a day. Warwick dropped first I believe.
A ok. i just didn't know how the voting went. can't vote again can i?
B I'm sure you can edit your post
A Ok i fixed it.
*sob* you're all so mean to the Warwicks!
I guess I didn't read the rules carefully. Maybe there should have been a 1 vote each rule. Too bad 1 or 2 people can knock an excellent brand out by voting against it 5 times or more; kind of like the reviewers on MF who have "heard about it" and give an instrument a bad rating. Well at least Gibson is in good company in the '0' list with Warwick (who'd of thunk?).
To the last comment I replied:
This is a game, not an open review. Your welcome to create your own...actually, that'd be a good idea.
So this is my idea coming to light:
A Bass Review
This will have a similar scoring system to The Best Bass.
Each bass brand starts with 10 points, and you + 1 point to your favorite brand, and - 1 point to your least favourite brand. Use + and - symbols to show your preferences making sure you have deleted the previous + and - symbols from the last post. If a brand is not listed add it to the list as an 11 (if you voted for it) or a 9 (if you voted against it).
However, each member may only post a vote once ever, but they may add comments to their post as to why they voted for their particular bass and why they voted against another. This is strongly recommended. You may even quote models, country of origin, etc. in your comments, but the voting is mainly on the makes.
Please feel free to make comments about another post even if you have voted already as long as you only vote once.
If a score reaches zero It May Be Revived by adding your +1 point. Please don't go into negative numbers, if a negative is posted you may revive the vote to a 1 if you vote for it. This is only fair.
Please, if you have any suggestions about these guidelines (not rules) let me know. I can take criticism quite well.
