Most underrated bassists

3 words that often make these threads very muddy. McCartney is not underrated. Not in bass circles. We tend to know a lot more players than most people. EVERYBODY knows who McCartney is.
Take a gander at the Dee Murray thread. He's also not underrated, but he's certainly underacknowledged. Almost every time I see a thread on him, even the bass players go "Yeah, I forgot about him. He's great"

Tom Keneddy. The man has played with Dave Weckl and Planet X and I have yet to read any posts on this Forum about him. He's a monster bassist and much more worthy of the praise he's gotten so far.
omar rodriguez-lopez. not only does he compose all of the mars volta's instrumentals, he's a really sick bassist himself in defacto.
Yup. Another example. Joe Osborn is not underrated by those who know him, but he's not often acknowledged.
Kyle Johnson from the metalcore band Misery Signals. He plays some intense riffs along with the guitarist and always has the melodies that blend so well with the guitar during their instrumental parts. If u havn't heard of Misery Signals i suggest downloading their cd.

Paul Chambers. My guess is that 95% of you haven't heard of him. One of the most amazing, genius bassists of all time. Check him out!

Haha, nice condescension there. And yes Chambers is great, but I really don't think you can beat Niels Pedersen. Sure they were in different circles, and Niels grew a lot over the 60's and 70's, but I just can't argue with NHOP's awesomeness.
A second for Tom Kennedy. Would also like to throw in Ric Fierabracci, and to a certain extent, Jimmy Haslip.
Yeah. He's on my friend list in MySpace. I also bought a copy of Bones from the Yard. He's also a big influence on what I do.

Probably not high an ANYONES list, but John Taylor, the dude from Duran Duran, could play !!!
As for Paul McC: Sure everyone knows who he is because he was a BEATLE.....but I doubt folks outside the bass world ever truly appreciated his playing as much as his singing & songwriting.
He & Jamerson rewrote the book & revolutionized the way the instrument was to be played.
I'll also add Talkbass's very own Trip Wamsley. I just grabbed his new cd from CD Baby & DAMN !!!!!
