Ok so I just did some quick soundclips of my favorite settings on the pedal for you to check out. All of these settings have the Bass Drive running at 9 volts, 18 volts will give you a cleaner, higher headroom sound.

The first clip is with the Bass Drive in Comp Cut mode, tone at 12 o'clock and overdrive maxed. This setting is perfect for a bit of grit. There's a bit of buzzing and artifacts on this clip that aren't coming out of my amp, so focus on the grind of the bass. The riff is from one of my band's songs.

The next clip is still in Comp Cut mode, but this time with the boost switch engaged and the tone pushed up to around 3 o'clock. This is the maximum amount of overdrive you can get with comp cut mode at 9 volts. At 18 volts it acts more like a clean boost.

The next clip is is in the FM mode, Mosfet, Overdrive maxed. The boost channel is off. The riff is from a song my band does that is in drop C#, and I think the Bass Drive reacts pretty well to the sludge of my dropped C# string.

The last setting is the same thing, but with the boost engaged for a more distorted sound. Compare this clip to the last one to get a feel for what the boost switch does in FM mode.

And here's a Vintage/Mosfet combination, Overdrive Maxed, Tone at 3 o'clock, Boost switch off. The riff is Jimi Hendrix Voodoo Chile (Slight Return).

I've been interested in the Bassdrive for awhile now. Very cool. Thanks for posting clips on this and the Analog Man Chorus too. I think it's really helpful when TB'ers like yourself go out of their way to help the community out. Both of those pedals are pretty sizable investments and it really helps to have as much info sound wise as possible before opening up the wallet. Thanks and keep it up.

Thanks a lot for the clips man....you just increased my GAS ten fold. Also, great riffs! My non music-playing bro walked by and commented that he liked them aswell :D I am about to order one in the next few days, and this sealed the deal. Ive also got a fulltone ocd, and one will be for light grind, and the other for heavy crunch :D

I realized I had the depth set too high for the Analagman Chorus clips so there's a bit of an almost short delay thing going on that I don't like so I should probably redo those, but it is a great sounding chorus. I've had and still have tons of pedals that I haven't done samples for, but when I can make the spare time to do it it's good for me too to listen and compare the sounds I'm getting.

And I'm glad you like the riffs. If you want to check out some of the other stuff we do Jeremy's got a myspace, Link Removed. You'd be hard pressed to hear the bass in our old studio recordings, and I didn't use any effects in the studio, but live is a completely different story.

Oh, and always I forgot to mention, in case it matters to anyone, I used a Fender MIA Jazz Bass, both pickups full bore, into an Ampeg V4BH.

And between the pedals I've owned and done samples for, this is up there with the EBS Multidrive as far as my preferences run. The sound I'm trying to achieve I would describe as a real beer bottles and ashtrays on the amplifiers style rock tone, and those two seem the best for me so far without resorting to tube based pedals, most of which I've looked at can't be powered with my DC Brick which is kind of an inconvenience for me, who likes to keep things simple.

I'm sure it would work great with a blender, but I don't think it really needs it. For one thing the distortion modes seem to hold the bottom better than previous versions of this pedal I've had, and when I run it with compcut not much is lost from my clean signal, the Bassdrive just spits out the clean signal plus grit. It's pretty cool; I'm pretty happy about that.

I haven't used this pedal with humbuckers, but I thought it worked well with the active guitars I've plugged into it. It has the option of being run at 18 volts, which will give you a lot more headroom, handy if you're using a high output active bass. Pedals that will do just that little bit of grit like in the first clip well are rare in my experience, and that's one of the things that makes this pedal a winner in my book.

Yeah, man, that thing sounds super sweet on these clips.

I have one, a non-MOSFET version, for a number of years. I a-b'ed it against some other popular hand-made kind of stuff (X-ray, Depth Charge, etc.), and liked it the best for it's controllability.

However, I recently let it go as it kept sounding way too fuzzy for my taste. Funny story, two-fold, is that I kept it of all the pedals because it was the least fuzz-like of them, but was getting rid of it 'cause it was fuzzy. The real funny part was that I ended up trading it (PSA-1) to a kid who had an Orange set up. Tube head. As soon as he plugged it in to give it a try, my ears jumped off my head...it didn't sound like my fuzzy pedal anymore.

So, as unscientific as it is, I've come to the conclusion that thing thing sounds good in front of tube pre/power setup...it sounds great in front of all tubes.

Definitely agreed.

I demo'd mine against other distortions, overdrives, and fuzzes through an old school Mesa Boogie all tube head and play mine through my SVT-II. Always sounds better and more organic than through a solid state or direct in situation.
