the "we should stand in the back and just play bass so that no one will notice we are there" stereotype.
i get the failed guitarist one about once a week, usually from some ignorant person who cant even play an instrument or from some guitard who things hes all high and mighty because he can play faster. HE HAS AN ELECTRIC GUITAR THAT IS GOING TO PLAY FASTER THAN A BASS! wow that kid makes me mad... anyways, my favorite stereotype is the one where we can groove to anything, i literally can
People who think bass is only cool when you slap and pop a it like a 2 handed monkey on speed. When you play in the pocket and groove your invisable to most :scowl:
My favorite is that everytime I mention Talkbass in a conversation with my band mates the singer always goes "Oh yeah, that site must get about 16 hits a month". If he only knew that we are an army in waiting.....
"Are you a bass player?"
"...Yeah, how'd you know?"
"Yer a big dude, yer quiet, and you smoke like a chimney. Must be a bass player."
Some dude I didn't know said that to me while I was standing outside a Starbucks.

Although i dont smoke i have heard the "you must be a bass player cuz your a big guy one a few times myself. Just a month ago a guy said this to me.
"Why don't you, like, move around more or something? You're not doin' much else."
And:
"Uh... Bass doesn't need effects, dude."
Oh! And a guy (who also actally does know quite a lot) once told me that I shouldn't play with a pick.
It's cool, man. I just do what makes me happy.
