JC Basses F Style Mandobass 4

This one hasn't officially started yet, but I figured I would start a thread about it now.

F Style Mandobass
Claro Walnut Top with F Holes
Black Walnut Chambered Body
Padauk Set-Neck with Black Walnut Stringers
Ebony Fretboard
Kent Armstrong Pickups with Wooden Covers
Passive Electronics (Volume and Blend)
Hipshot Single String Bridge
Gotoh Tuners
All Gold Hardware

I will basically be an f style mandolin, but a bass. Ok, ok I know it will be hard to access any frets above 18 and the customer is fine with that and that is how mandolins are. Also it will be over 2" thick so balance won't be much of an issue either. The headstock will be a bit smaller than in the picture to help with neck dive.

Here is my mdf template so far, still need to cut it out.

My 2 cents, you should narrow the headstock more. Get straight pulls on all 4 strings, and pull in the contours at the end of the h/s. Otherwise, a great design.

I agree the headstock needs a little work. In the rendering it wasn't quite centered so that makes the strings on the treble side off a bit. I went ahead and rotated it slightly to correct that. I also brought in each side of the headstock to thin it down. The strings don't pull perfectly straight in the picture, but the could in real life easily.

Very cool Jared. It's great to see someone with so much talent doing so many unique things. I still might take you up on the custom 5'er someday, but the money just isn't in the cards right now.

Yeah I am always up for something new, your design we made way back when is still one of my favorites. I've incorporated many of the design elements into other builds.

I cut out the ebony fretboard and the fret slots.
