As this has become quite the "thing" around here in the last few days I figure it deserves its own thread

So, you might be wondering, what exactly IS in the box?

It's a new LPB-1!

This was about where "unity" gain is. It goes from -∞ to +something. Im quite afraid of how much boost I really want to apply, as evidenced by the picture after this one. If you can't see, which you prolly can't (bad lighting), the knob is just below the 9 o'clock position:


As I said for the previous picture, I'm quite afraid to apply too much boost. The right on 9 o'clock position is plenty. It doesn't add a lot of volume (as evidenced by my recordings), but it does add something. Very simmilar in sound to the boost on the Hematoma:


Ok, a little review: As I stated above the LPB-1 sounds very much like the Hematoma's boost side. It adds some "mojo" to the sound. Its really hard to explain, but comes thru clearer in the recordings I did. For the recordings I did one run dry->boosted, effect on then off, then another for POG->boost. I then amplified the rec in Audacity, and duplicated each. For the duplication I re-amplified the non boost. For the dry signal I only had to amp 0.7dB to hit max, and for the POG I had to boost 2.1

I took screen shots of each run/duplication (for all recordings the LPB is set for 9 o'clock):

It seem to me that it acts more like a compressor or overdrive (tho it add NO grit ) and brings the low volume notes up WAY higher. Here are some recordings of it. I actually tried to place a wall between the amp/speaker/mic and me/pedalboard, but tho you don't here the acoustic sound of me playing (yay), the damn switches still end up being heard . I guess I should be glad of the fact that the mic is THAT sensitive. Its a Samson C01U BTW.

Long post, but I hope it gives some insight on the LPB-1. BTW, I'm definately replaceing the Hema with this , but the Hema's already spoken for

It's not better or worse really. Like I said its very similar. The Hema's boost adds the same strange "extra punch mojo" to the sound, which I find interesting.

Honestly, the drive side of the Hema is it's own monster that reacts very different depending on the bass I use. With my jazz 5 it tends to cloud things, but with my P/J 4 banger it sounds better. Since I rarely ever play my 4 I don't really need the OD side, and the LPB will replace it really nicely
