Hi John, try Blues Bass by Ed Friedland, its on Hal Leonard and a great place to start. Listens to anything on the Chess label and the gutar work of Stevie Ray Vaughan. Listen to Stevie's guitar work and you'll find some great lines, phrasing, rhythm and tempos to use.

The Melbay books are normally a bit hit and miss, but The Complete Blues Bass Book by Mike Hiland is the business for blues.

One channel has keys/drums, other channel has bass/drums; so you can cut the bass out and do your own lines.
Has tips, advice, articles, a little light theory, melodic ideas and chord charts.
