My girl friend took my bass.

Well today she came over for a while, well watching a movie(the prestige) i started playing bass about 2 hours later (solid playing) i feel my frets getting wet. I look down and i'm bleeding and have mega blisters on my fingers i quicly clean off my frett board and go dress my wounds when i come back she has my bass ransomed untill my fingers are better.

Now why did i get these blisters and bleed. I blame my round wounds and lack of recent playing time.

This only gives me an excuses to play more once heeled to help build up dem calases.:bassist::bassist:

Good thing she didnt take my back.

I've never had a fretting hand bleed, but I ripped many a chunk out of my plucking fingers back in the day when I had a little 50 Watt Fender Solid State combo and was playing with two drummers and three guitarists all playing through Fender Twins. I wrapped them up with athletic tape and kept on playing. Now when I have a finger injury, I use Nexcare Finger Crack repair. It will heal the biggest finger cut in a few days and doesn't leave your fingers soft. It actually forms a sorta kinda callus. Head to the drug store, you'll have your bass back in no time.

i would be so pissed at my girl friend. i knew what was doing when i played. you could have stopped if ya wanted. But yeah i have used tape in the past however things can get sticky if u used the wrong stuff so be smart dont ruin ur bass

you need cyanoacrylate "super glue". take a little on a peace of paper and quickly rub your finger tip in the glue. stevie ray vaughan used to use super glue all the time. It has been used in hospitals since the 1920's. just don’t ever get it in a cut that is more than skin deep and be real careful not to spill any. also that nexcare might be a good way to go.

Hi.

+1 for CA.

I use CA (super glue) for any cuts I get, and I tend to cut myself quite a bit in my line of work. I always carry a bottle and usually am able to be back in bussiness within a minute.

I use CA for deeper cuts too, working with metal and glass usually go a bit deeper than just "skin deep".

Try to convince her that a little bit of fingering exercises will heal Your fingertips quicker ;).

Regards
Sam

You didn't notice you were bleeding or had blisters until you felt moisture on your frets? Dude... You have bigger problems.

As i have heard. the real issue is I'm used to super smooth coated flats i changed those out for some un coated rounds last night they tore my fingers up pretty fast but the tone was worth it.

Be smart...allow your fingers time to adapt. In other words, do not be dense and play until your fingers bleed. What you want to do is deliver enough stress to cause your body to adapt. Once your fingers have healed up, start the first few days with say a half hour to 45 minutes. If that goes ok then go to an hour for a while. Make sure to stop every 5 or 10 minutes to make sure you are not going to rip open your fingers...this is not a positive thing to have happen, and will keep you from playing and progressing.

Your girlfriend was right to hold your bass for ransom...she is looking out for you when your were not.
