This sucks. Just when I thought the only thing I could afford was MIM or at the very least, a squier, Fender put their entire catolog out of my reach. Ibanez sound gear, here I come....

I just recieved a 2009 Fender Catolog. Fender increased their prices!!!

There are several long threads about this already. I admit I'm glad I just got my Jaguar. Not only before the price increase, but it was on sale, too.
you do realize that NOBODY charges the MSRP, right? talk a look at Musiciansfriend, or guitarcenter.com.. you will see MSRP is always higher that the actual price. its just a marketing tactic.
I guess MSRP may change a bit in the long run, but it's probably nothing too much to worry about. At the rate that other things are increasing in price (Gas... mainly gas...), to me, it seems like bass prices have been at a standstill for a while.
Of course, this is coming from a person who doesn't have the financial responsibilities that most other TBers have at the moment.

Hmmm...MF has MIM P's & J's for $500 to $550, and Squier VM P's & J's for $250 to $280. You're not planning to pay Fender's LIST price, are you?
Boycott purchasing Fenders and watch their pricing change.
They are already up to their neck in competition - if their price increases send people to other brands consistently I think they would have to adjust to the market demands.

This is kinda old news, a couple threads already about it. But actually many companies are rasing their prices too, not just Fender.
Fender isn't up to their necks in competition for Fender branded instruments which people will continue to buy.
A few shops, including Elderly, have already raised their prices, and the increases are EYE-OPENING. Harpo61 is absolutely right, the new street price for the American 4-string Jazz Bass is $1500, the 5-string is $1600. The Mex 70s Jazz Bass is now $890.
I decided to get a Mex 70s Jazz Bass if I could find one before everyone raised their prices. I checked out my local Guitar Center today, found they had one, had NOT raised their prices yet, and managed to get it for $629 with this month's 10% off one item coupon. WHEW!!!!

Dude, were have you been, on the other side of the moon. The Fender price increases are not new news, brother. Sh!t going up, better get used to it. Our economy in in a majorly thick recession, times are gonna get harder before they get easier, we've been slip'n and slid'n for too long, now we've got to pay the price. Just glad I bought my '08' MIA Fender Jazz V back in June of '08.

The Fender brand is like Harley Davidson. People will continue pay for the name regardless if they rattle apart and/or drip oil in your garage.

I work in music retail, Fender's MSRP AND Sell pricing, MAP, have gone up. A Fender Jazz V American Standard is $1589 most places except Musician's Friend which hasn't raised prices yet but, they will. They have to be in accordance with MAP pricing, and they will be. If you want a Fender Jazz V Olympic White and Rosewood Board, GC has them on clearance for 899.97. They aren't going to stock that item in that color. Besides that, you are all right, but this increase is not just MSRP which is typical, but also MAP aka Selling price. Mexican strat's went from 399 to 549 FYI and Fender isn't alone, they are just higher profile.
Man ya know these Fender threads always make me laugh.Why is it O.K. Rickenbacker,Furlenetto,Musicman and a crapload of others to raise their prices,but when Fender does it becomes a national crisis.Yea ya know it sucks all the way around,but I seriously doubt any of these companies really care what any of us think really.They will always sell their instruments regardless.If we boycott Fender as suggested then why not boycott them all.I mean what does a new F bass cost now? over $ 4000? I think the solution to the problem here is to only buy used.That would send a definate sign to all the suits in these companies that the average Joe is not buying their stuff new anymore,and it will hit them in their wallets.Just my .02 cents.

So glad I got my (Squier) VMJ and my Cowpoke when I did. Granted the Cowpoke isn't new but prices on all used Fenders are going to reflect this price increase before its over even for the 'Squiers'. Also glad Im not in the market for a Fender.......
