Fenderbird build

This is my first body build.

Body is made from 3 pieces of 2x6 poplar.
It's going to have a MightyMite Jazz neck with Schaller tuners.
Bridge will be thru body.

I'm still havent decided on pickups yet. Thinking about a BassLine Musicman pickup with coyl tap.


I reversed the body.
Will I be sorry with the placement of the knobs?

I think it's cool. An interesting take on the Fenderbird. Basically a standard "reverse body" reversed again. Your body taper looks nice and as long as you don't slap or play real close to the fingerboard,you shouldn't have a problem with the knobs. Not where I would place them personally, but each to his own.

You mentioned splitting the coils of the pickup. I doubt you will be able to us a push/pull volume or tone pot. better off using a micro switch.

there's a million ways to build something. I think your off to a good start. Just my opinion. Let's see photos of the completed bass. Good luck!

The only reason I may choose that location for the knobs is because I may have tapered down the body a bit to much to put the knobs over by the jackplate.:hmm:

Also I was thinking of using a micro switch for the coil tap if I go with a humbucker.

I'm open for suggestions on pickups.

I'm going to rout the neck pocket this weekend.

I think if you put the pots up fairly close to the middle of the body,you still should have room for them. You could use the smaller size pots that are available,though they probably won't make much of a difference. Also, you could mount the backplate on the surface,instead of routing it into the body. Once again, it all boils down to what you like.

Your pickup selection is almost endless, That's the fun of building your own instrument. I think it's going to make a nice looking bass. I want to do a Fenderbird myself, I have been gathering parts for awhile now. One of these days,I might actually get around to it. All the different versions on Talkbass are pretty amazing. There is a lot of tallent here!

yeah, thats lookin incredible, so, for the curvature of the body, you just did like an arm contour on every "wing" peice sticking out? im not sure if you will understand becasue i sure didnt word that properly, maybe ill think of some better words and come back and edit
