Just to kick things off :)

to quote DaveC:

"I want to pose a Lakland question, Was your Lakland Love instant or did it develop over time?

I remember in the mid-ninties stopping by the factory and test driving a few basses, and being blow away, USA was the only option.

Years later I bought a 5501, but it wasn't a keeper. I think more to do with it being a 5 than the bass.

I recently picked up a 4402 Deluxe and I liked it alot, and the more I play it the better I like it. That isn't always true for me, but it sure is for this Lakland.....

So, was it Lakland love at first sight or a growing love and respect for your Lakland?"

Dave: mine is Love at first play EVERY TIME I play one!

everytime I play something new, however, I gain more respect...I have gone from "lust to love' if you know what i mean....I am "digging deeper" than simply sexiness and feeling good and moving towards true respect! kind of like a marriage....(:))

As for the single/double debate....I just speoke to Leo (re: getting HaPpYfAcEs new DJ5 there for "surgery") and he said that they cannot do doubles on a DJ bridge because thre is not enough room (not sure HOW you are getting them Evan!) BUT:

they WILL do a 44-94 or 55-94 that way - just none have been done yet.....hmmmmmm....who will be the first? I would LOVE to be but I do not have the cash for a new US bass at this point (darn! wish I could sell that fretless!!!!)

w00t new thread.

hmmm...doug, i think i will be talking to them in May sometime...i'll be able to do the down payment at that point.

probably i'll do a 5 string and a 4 string. hehehe...2 basses! probably not at the same time, though.

I just checked out GC....did a search for "Lakland" and it said this is not available...hmmmm???

on the used front there is a cherry burst 55-01 fretless in Indy for $699 and guess where I will be tomorrrow night? may need to check it out!

also - there is a US 3T burst Glaub P/J in Nashville for a decent price.....

other than that....most other prices do not seem to be earth shaking....

they generally aren't great on prices unless they're really trying to move something.

the local one has an ampeg svt410hlf thats used for $250 on clearance. the tolex/carpet is all torn up, though. i think the speakers might be ratted out, too.

i might try to pick up a svt610hlf, though...and then finish getting the tc electronic rig (maybe just one cab and the head or 210, 212, head), then i'll have two kickass rigs to play through and i can start putting money towards a US lakland. :smug:

Say guys, can I join? Got my first Lakland a couple weeks ago...just a plain ol' 44-01, no mods or anything. I actually like the stock electronics...that, and I've never really modded at all, so I don't know what kind of trouble I'd be getting myself into! :p

I recently upgraded to this from a Squier P Bass, and I really love it. Plus, all my bandmates approve! Couldn't get their eyes (or hands) off it last practice :)

Instant, sorta.

I fooled around with cheap basses and was pretty clueless as to what was up.

My favorite local bass player would show up to a gig with 2 or 3 Laklands.

Cherry Burst 5594, Trans White 5594, Teal Green 5594.

I was floored by the tone, the look and his playing.

I figured if I was ever gonna be serious about playing the bass, I needed to get a Lakland.

I was right...

Matty,
What pick ups are in the double J, and the Scheff fretless?
... gotta admit, the Decade looks much better on you than on me!! It made me look really old....

and RUSH... that is a sweet 44-01, I had one just like it. It will take oyu a long way, or until the next Lakie starts to call your name!!

Welcome, and DO go check out the laklandowners.com site....

hey guys,
i'm curious, how do the skyline necks fair against the US ones? what i absolutely love about laklands are the necks, but our local dealer only carries US made. the US decade is a bit pricey for me but i absolutely love it.. does that neck magic carry over?

i think the skyline necks are great, but thats really were the difference lies between U.S, and skyline basses. the finish on the back of the neck on skylines are more of a satin finish whereas the U.S models are more of a natural oiled finish that feels more broken in. also the U.S. has graphite support in all their necks whereas the skylines have it only on the 5 string basses.

all and all the skyline necks do have the same dimensions as the u.s.. and now that the skyline necks are plek'd the are much closer in terms of fret work.
