Best 5-6 String Metal Bass.

For my next investment I've been looking for a 5 or 6 string metal bass,

For Bullet For My Valentine, Metallica, In Flames and stuff like that.

I've been thinking a Schecter or an ESP,

Price about upto about 1200ish.

Maybe abit less, abit more.

If I were you, I'd try one of these first

However, I am a 6 string minimum kind of guy:D IMO you should take a look at what you're playing and see if you need that high C. I know I need mine, but chugga-chugga type songs require me to play almost exclusively on the low B and on E, and with a medium-longish strap length I find it a little awkward sometimes. Since you asked for 5-6 strings, I figured you weren't fully decided yet.

Is this your 1st bass?

Everybody is going to tell you what they like, and think is the best. It's about what YOU like.

Go to your local GC (Guitar Center) or music stores, and try stuff out.

If you like thin, and narrow necks try out Ibanez SR / SRX series - they're great quality great sounding basses for the money. (See - I told you what I like)

If you don't need the higher notes - you don't need a 6er, but a 5er has the low B that a 4-banger doesn't have.

I´m rather new also, and, like WhisperAPrayer looking into 5-stringers. The advantages of the B-string are very clear to me, but why have a C-string, considering all its notes already are there higher up the neck? Just to play double notes/chords?
Second question: players I know say you can hear low B, but hardly feel it, because it lacks punch. Do you guys agree?

+1 solarmist on GC. There is never a perfect bass guitar for any genre. I have seen so many different bass guitars used for heavy medal that it is all in the technique anyways. So you should be looking for a good quality 5 string that fits YOU comfortably. I usually play 6 strings so I cant help you on a 5 string choice. Good luck

Corvette is the cheapest range for Warwick, and secondly most metal bands that go on tour get sponsored by a company such as warwick. So just because you see them playing a warwick doesn't mean your going to get the same sound that the performer gets with his custom warwick. But I am sure if you just say a price and exact specs you want everyone on TB can give you a short list of basses to try.

imo warwicks make a wicked bass for any style i just bought the warwick corvette $$ neck thru in bubinga its natural tone has enough "punch" to pound through a mix in any metal setting without much tone shaping on your amp but can be rounded off for smoother playing styles. comes in a 4 or 5 string i bought the four and am about to buy the five. excellent basses for the price. ive played spector basses as well and before i fire off that debate i'll say i like them both equally pretty much the same thing sound wise but everyone on this site likes to turn it into a pompous debate lol. give those two a try i think you'll be happy with either.
