Advice Needed: BRAND NEW Mesa Titan takes a crap . . . what to do.

Got my Titan V-12, brand new last week. Less than 30 mins playing time.

Yesterday practicing in the garage, less than 10% power load, low volume; experimenting with tone and overdrive settings.

Stop playing to pull a stool over to sit on, DID NOT TOUCH A THING, go to play again . . .

NO OUTPUT. Gone. Nothing. Just like that.

Check/swap guitar cables. Nothing.

Check/swap bass guitars. Nothing.

Check/swap speaker cable. Nothing.

Swap input channels and output channels. Nothing.

Engage/disengage overdrive. Nothing.

Crank gain and master to full . . . sounds like it should sound if MUTED. (Which suggest that the internal overheat Mosfet power breaker has engaged.)

Let amp sit overnight to see if internal breaker will reset. NOTHING.

Amp was not overheated (like I said, less than 30 mins in the garage at volumes that keep my wife from complaining).

ANYBODY GOT ANY ADVICE OR IDEAS??!!

Unless someone knows of a secret, looks like it's going back to the dealer or to Mesa Boogie.

I had this happen to me with my Titan V12. I got it brand new from an out of state dealer. I got one show and two rehearsals out of it before it crapped out at practice. I called Mesa and they were very helpful. I have a local authorized dealer they told me to take it too and he opened it up and found that the protection circuit had blown. Basically if there is something going wrong this circuit will blow and shut the amp down so that nothing else is damaged. I get it back this week!! Hopefully it won't happen again. On a side note I have owned several Mesa amps and never had an issue so I am praying this was one of those freak accidents!

And this is exactly what I am afraid of . . . I have no "authorized local repair dealer". I'll have to ship it off, AT MY OWN EXPENSE, . . . damn thing is brand new!!

Who wants to be out an amp for however long while this thing is fixed . . . and then maybe fixed again . . . and again . . .?

Contacting dealer tomorrow to fight for a refund.

Mine has been perfectly reliable. I would try toggling everything off then back on, try with and without the footswitch plugged in ... sounds like it is muted or it blew a fuse for some reason. What did you have it driving at the time and was the impedence switch set right?

Impedence switch was set correctly (4/8 ohm to drive a Berg 4 ohm cab).

I've toggled front switches in all combinations . . .

Tried it with and w/o the footswitch, nothing.

Just before it quit, I was using an overdrive setting at low level, then switched it back to normal gain setting . . . that's when it quit making sound.

The store is in FL. Price included shipping.

Got a really good price on it too!!! . . . . makes one wonder, huh?

I'm unaware of any dealer who stocks more than one of these at a time . . . they are not a high-demand item ($$$).

So, a swap is probably out of the question.

If the dealer will take it back I intend to return it at my cost and never go near another one!

and to think I chose this over an Aguilar DB750 . . . shame on me :crying::scowl:

You most likely just got a bum head, I'd think that if you got another one it would be fine. I purchased the new Carvin BX500 head and was probably one of the first guys on this board to get one. I've had absolutely no problems with it, but there has been alot of guys who got heads that had issues. Most returned the head for another and have been quite pleased afterward, some said screw it "I'm done". Give the store a call soon as you can, I'm sure they'll be reasonable. Good Luck.;)

There's something with the V12 head; I've had mine for about 9 months and I occasionally get a similar issue, usually caused by me as follows:
- Using Channel A, no overdrive. Switch to Channel B, engage overdrive. Now I get no output whatsoever...from either channel. Eventually, through some voodoo magic of swtiching O/D on, off, back and forth from A to B, it works again.
It doesn't seem to happen if B is already in O/D mode before I switch over; but yep..there's something up with the protection circuit logic. I think. Have posted in the "BoogieBoard" but never get any answers there either, but since I can usually trick the head into working again I've never bothered to send it back.

Not that I can tell, but has to be something along that line. Caused when switching into O/D mode; I keep trying to discern if there's some "proceedure" that has to be followed, but nothing forthcoming from Mesa. Worked ok the other night; I did a tune in Channel A in clean; had already pulled out the O/D knob in Channel B, and switched over for the next tune (that needed some grind) without issue.

I know this will be easier said than done, but take a deep breath, step back from the ledge, and calm down. Mesa Boogie is known for their great customer support and standing behind what they build. While your experience is unfortunate, it could happen with any manufacturer or model. Give Mesa the opportunity to make it right, and I'm sure you'll be happy with a properly functioning V12. :hyper:
